An exclusive Ribera from one of the D.O.’s most interesting wineries

The boutique winery Dominio de Atauta is one of the most interesting in the D.O. Ribera del Duero. Our technical team have worked closely with this firm to bring you Todo o Nada por Dominio de Atauta 2018, a blend notable for its rich complexity: it combines the finesse and subtlety of Tempranillo from the part of Ribera del Duero located in the province of Soria with the structure and volume of Tempranillo grown in Burgos. Aged in oak for 12 months.

General information

Todo o Nada por Dominio de Atauta 2018 is a blend of grapes from vines between 60 and 80 years old grown in chiefly sandy soils in the part of Ribera del Duero in the province of Soria (75%), to give it finesse and subtlety, and grapes from vines between 25 and 40 years old cultivated in clayey soils in the part of Ribera del Duero in the province of Burgos (25%), to provide structure and volume. A red made exclusively for Vinoselección and aged for 12 months in French oak.

Dominio de Atauta (2000) is a boutique winery with a small output (100,000 bottles per year) and a very close relationship with nature. It is located in the easternmost part of the Denominación, in Soria, where there are fewer wineries. Its vineyards, which surround the facilities in the same valley, are divided into more than 500 micro-plots of Tempranillo grown in different types of soils that afford the grapes a rich complexity.

The vines grow at a very high altitude: 1,000 metres, where contrasts in temperature are even more accentuated, leading to fresher, subtler and more aromatic wines. They have an added value: their age. Many are 150 years old, dating from before the phylloxera epidemic, and produce very low yields. The winery goes in for traditional and sustainable grape-growing practices and only uses organic products, and all work is performed manually.

The winery facilities stand on a hillside on a sloping terrain and are built at different levels so that gravity is used to move the grapes through the various stages, with no need for mechanical pump-overs. The wines produced here represent the most up-to-date version of Ribera. In 2004 Dominio de Atauta established a new winery beside its facilities: Atalayas de Golbán, which makes wine from grapes grown not only in the Valley of Atauta, but in the whole area of San Esteban de Gormaz and other parts of Ribera del Duero.
