Tobelos Reserva 2015 was grown on vineyards in the Rioja Alta area on terraces and small plots with poor soils in the districts of San San Vicente de la Sonsierra, which is home to the best Tempranillo, and Rivas de Tereso. The vines, gobelet-trained and 30 years old on average, are cultivated at an altitude of 550 metres. The grapes were picked by hand and underwent alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in truncated-cone-shaped concrete vats. The wine was aged for 18 months in French (70%) and American (30%) oak barrels.
Tobelos Bodegas y Viñedos was started up by Ricardo Reinoso in the late 1990s. The winery was initially christened La Encina and was later given its current name. Its facilities are located in Briñas, a municipality very close to Haro, by the river Ebro and at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria and the Obarenes mountains. In this privileged spot it creates interesting wines that combine tradition and state of the art.
Tobelos Reserva 2015 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is perfect with baby lamb chops cooked over vine shoots.
Dark crimson, clear and bright. Intense nose with aromas of red and black fruit such as blackberries and blackcurrants, together with spicy notes of cinnamon, cocoa and vanilla. Great attack, balance of flavours from start to finish. Smooth tannins, nicely integrated acidity and a long finish. Beautifully rounded and balanced.
