More than 150 years of winemaking are the Escudero family's hallmark. The insight of four generations devoted to wine makes all the difference. So does the quality of the old vineyards located on their Finca Cuesta la Reina estate in the southern part of Mount Yerga. Aged for 18 months in American oak, Solar de Becquer Reserva 2014 is packed with an intense and complex range of aromas in which fruit and wood go hand in hand. Good structure on the palate, but with a smoothness that makes it very drinkable.

General Information

Solar de Becquer Reserva 2014 is a blend of Tempranillo (70%), Garnacha (15%) and Mazuelo (15%). The grapes were grown in the southern part of Mount Yerga, on the Finca Cuesta la Reina estate, a sunny slope that starts at 450 metres above sea level and rises to 800 metres, with poor clay-limestone soils and abundant pebbles. The estate, spanning more than 120 hectares of vines with an average age of 55 years, has belonged to the Escudero family for four generations and has always been used to cultivate vineyards.

After being thoroughly monitored in the vineyards, the grapes were picked by hand when optimally ripe and on arriving at the winery they were transferred to the sorting belt. Fermentation was carried out in stainless-steel vats with native yeast followed by maceration for at least 10 days. The wine was aged for 18 months in American oak barrels with an average age of 5 years. After bottling, it was left to mature for at least 28 months before being released.

With a winery located in Grávalos, a village in the foothills of the Demanda mountains with a long winemaking tradition, the Escudero family have been grape growers and winemakers for four generations. In 1852, they embarked on a quest for quality that has made them a leading name in Rioja today. Bodegas Escudero own about 150 hectares of excellent vines with an average age of 50 years.

Solar de Becquer Reserva 2014

(D.O.Ca. Rioja) pairs well with baby lamb chops, Ibérico pork deli meats, pulses and spicy stews.

The Escudero family spans four generations of winemakers and viticulturists, showcasing to the world the unique character and excellent quality of Rioja wines. In 1852, with the winery located in Grávalos—a village with a rich winemaking tradition nestled at the foothills of the Sierra de la Demanda—the Escudero family embarked on a journey of quality that has positioned them, more than a century and a half later, as a clear Rioja benchmark.

Amador Escudero leads the winery, which is constantly engaged in research projects. It also boasts an excellent viticultural heritage of around 150 hectares, with an average vine age of 50 years.

The Escudero family is currently one of the main cava producers in Rioja (they have been producing cava since 1958). They have also sought new places to apply their winemaking philosophy, expanding their activity to the Rioja-based Bodegas Valsacro, Cavas Escudero, and Bodegas Logos in the nearby D.O. Navarra.
