White wines have been made under the D.O. Ribera del Duero since 2019. These wines are created from the native Albillo Mayor grape variety, which has been rescued from oblivion to produce modern, high-quality whites, though in limited quantities owing to the small area these vines account for. General Information
Whites were recently added to the range of wines made under the D.O. Ribera del Duero, with just one grape variety as their standard bearer: Albillo Mayor, which accounts for barely 300 of the more than 23,000 hectares registered under the D.O. This millenary native variety is at last being given the loving care it deserves to produce white wines that are attracting fans in leaps and bounds. Neo Albillo Mayor 2020 displays the best features of this variety in a young white.
Grown on gobelet-trained vines aged between 50 and 60 years old in the municipal districts of Aranda de Duero, Zuzones and Castrillo de la Vega, this wine is a tribute to traditional grape growing in a modern-style production. The grapes were picked by hand in small 16-kg crates. The juice was fermented with the skins for two days in stainless steel vats, followed by fermentation with showers at a carefully monitored temperature of 13ºC to extract more colour and aromas. It was finally aged on the lees in stainless steel tanks. The result is an extra buttery and complex white.

The winery
Since its foundation in the 1990s, Bodegas y Viñedos Neo has been one of the most dynamic wineries in the D.O. Ribera del Duero. A winemaking house that began its activity in an old water mill in Aranda de Duero (Burgos) and that, thanks to high scores from renowned critics such as Robert Parker (The Wine Advocate) and Jancis Robinson, or publications like Decanter, quickly gained worldwide attention.
Since 2005, the winery has had new facilities in Castrillo de la Vega (Burgos). A modern, young, fresh, and groundbreaking winery equipped with the latest winemaking technologies, but also boasting a charming decoration where standout pieces like a Mazinger Zeta figure or the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars shine brightly.
The secret to the success of Bodegas y Viñedos Neo lies in a good vineyard selection. Respect for the region’s winemaking tradition and the minimal intervention approach of its managers on their vines make the wines of this winery true ambassadors of the best Ribera del Duero.
Music, and especially rock and roll, is the other great passion of Neo’s creators. So much so that the winery features a recording studio designed by Philip Newell, the same designer of the legendary Abbey Road studio known by The Beatles. As organizers of the renowned Sonorama Ribera festival held in Aranda de Duero, their commitment to quality music is undeniable, just as it is in all processes of crafting their serious and highly acclaimed wines in over fifty international markets.
