General Information

Torelló Brut Reserva Special Edition is a sparkling wine from Torelló made with a blend of the best xarel·lo, macabeo, and parellada grapes from their own vineyards located on the family estate of Can Martí. Its eye-catching label gives a nod to Madrid with an image that marks the distance from the winery to the Spanish capital (623 km), complemented by illustrations that reflect the winery's history.

The family winery Torelló was founded in 1951, when Francesc Torelló i Casanovas decided to produce wines and sparkling wines for bottling. However, the family has been connected to the wine world since the 14th century. Currently, the winery has an important estate of 135 hectares, where they cultivate both native and foreign varieties organically. Among the white grapes, they grow macabeo, xarel·lo, parellada, chardonnay, and subirat parent. For red grape varieties, they grow cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir, and syrah.

Following this work of organic farming, the grapes are harvested manually and quickly transported to the presses, where a gentle pressing is done to separate the varieties. The resulting must is fermented with their own wild yeasts, and subsequently, a minimum aging of 36 months in the bottle takes place, with annual poignettage or bottle shaking, which aims to remix the yeasts with the wine, enriching the sparkling wine with aromas and flavors. The final result is Torelló Brut Reserva Special Edition, a great wine with persistent bubbles and mineral notes that ideally accompanies all kinds of appetizers, grilled white meats, smoked dishes, and roasted pork.

Tasting notes

New golden yellow color, with golden and grayish flashes, clean and transparent, with persistent bubbles.

On the nose, it is seductive with mineral notes, wildflowers, fennel, and candied fruit. Yeast notes, brioche, menthol aromas, and almond appear.

On the palate, it is rich, with a good entry, fresh and with character.

The winery

The family history begins in the year 1395 at the Can Martí estate and its farmhouses. And it will be 22 generations later, in the year 1951, when the surname Torelló appears, one of the reference families in the cava sector in our country.

The Can Martí estate is the nerve center of Torelló's vineyards and cellars, located in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, considered by all as the heart and capital of cava.

The Can Martí estate covers 135 hectares in the fertile Penedès region. It cultivates white grape varieties such as macabeo, xarel·lo, parellada, chardonnay, and subirat parent, as well as red grape varieties such as cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir, and syrah.

For the production of cavas, Torelló selects only vines over 30 years old. This is done to ensure consistency and quality in the harvest.

The soils have a clay-limestone mix and are poor in organic matter. Pruning is done short to control vineyard yield and grape quality. As for the climate, it is typically Mediterranean, with an average temperature of 16 ºC and rainfall concentrated in spring and autumn.

For less than a decade, the Torelló winery has begun a process of converting its vineyards to organic viticulture, but in truth, they have been practicing environmentally friendly methods for many more years.
