You probably already know Jeff Carrel's wines, because two years ago we presented the creations of this brilliant French winemaker at Vinoselección. Based in Languedoc-Roussillon, in the southeast of the country, everything he touches turns to gold. Now he returns with La Tire By Jeff Carrel 2021, a blend of cariñena and syrah that pays homage to the legendary Citroën 2CV, the popular "two horses". Winner of the Gold Medal at the Berliner Wein Trophy.

La Tire By Jeff Carrel 2021 is made with 60% cariñena and 40% syrah. The cariñena comes from vines over 50 years old; and the syrah, from over 30. The vines, in conversion to organic, grow in schist soils of Villeneuve-les-Corbières, in the department of Aude, within the AOP Fitou, the southernmost part of Languedoc-Roussillon.
Both varieties fermented together; the cariñena grapes, whole, in the carbonic maceration method. Once fermentation was completed, the wine aged for a time in vats.
This red, winner of a gold at the Berliner Wein Trophy, pays homage to the legendary Citroën 2CV, the popular "two horses" that was marketed in 1948, the same year that Fitou became an "Appellation d'Origine Protégée" (protected designation of origin).
La Tire By Jeff Carrel 2021 (AOP. Fitou, France) reveals aromas of red fruits and spices on the nose. On the palate, intense notes of blueberries, blackberries, peppers, and violets. Fine tannins and pleasant acidity that provides freshness. Ideal to accompany meats such as lamb stew with potatoes or roasted suckling pig.
Jeff Carrel is one of the trendy French winemakers. Based in Languedoc-Roussillon, he masterfully interprets the different terroirs of this extensive area in the southeast of France, bordering the Spanish frontier.
