From Pesquera de Duero, which is home to the great wines of Ribera del Duero, we bring you an exclusive wine that expresses the best of the 2023 vintage. Tionio stands for the history of the area and has been constantly evolving and surprising consumers ever since it first came out in the 1990s. In 2018 the winery became part of the Raventós Codorníu group, which has imbued it with even more personality and know-how. This red wine, Tionio Edición Especial 2023, takes its name from the expression used by the Romans to refer to the purest wine ('tionio'). It’s made with Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) grapes from different plots in areas close to the Duero river, in the provinces of Valladolid and Burgos, and has been lightly barrel aged for 3 months. A mature, elegant wine with great laying-down potential. You’ll only find it here.

Tionio Edición Especial 2023 is the latest vintage of an exclusive Ribera del Duero whose 2021 and 2022 versions we introduced you to. It was obvious that you liked it, so we’ve repeated our collaboration with the winery in this 2023 vintage, which is characterised by highly structured and complex wines.
To produce this red wine, the firm selected different plots of Tempranillo grapes in areas close to the Duero river, in the provinces of Valladolid and Burgos. The grapes were harvested when they reached a good phenolic ripeness, maintaining high levels of acidity that give freshness to the final wine.
At the winery, the grapes were destemmed and transferred to vats almost whole. After cold pre-fermentative maceration for 24 hours they underwent alcoholic fermentation at 25–26ºC in order to preserve the varietal aromas. The total duration of maceration was 10-12 days. The wine then underwent spontaneous malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. It was finally transferred to French and American oak barrels, where it remained for 3 months to gain structure and complexity.
Bodegas Tionio is the D.O. Ribera del Duero winery belonging to the Raventós Codorníu group, a family firm that dates back to 1551 and owns various wineries located in the most nationally and internationally prestigious winemaking areas. Tionio is based in Pago de Casar, in Pesquera de Duero, and the grapes that go into making its wines chiefly come from an iconic vineyard: La Asperilla, an estate in the neighbouring area of Peñafiel, spanning 20 hectares.
When the Roman Empire was established in Hispania, ‘tionio’ was the name given to the purest and most delicate wine. On this basis, Bodegas Tionio aims to achieve the best expression and essence of the Tinto Fino or Tempranillo variety grown on its vineyards in the D.O. Ribera del Duero.
Tionio Edición Especial 2023 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) makes the perfect accompaniment to roast lamb or stewed game meat.
Deeply pigmented, purplish-red wine with purplish hues. Predominant aromas of fresh red fruit in the nose, characteristic of the vintage, well integrated with the toasty and spicy notes from barrel ageing. Fresh, elegant palate with good bottle-ageing potential.
