General Information

Taittinger Brut Reserva is made from 40% Chardonnay and 60% Pinot Noir+ and Pinot Meunier. The grapes came from more than 35 different vineyards and several vintages. The high percentage of white Chardonnay grapes – unusual for great non-vintage Champagnes – and its minimum three years’ ageing at the winery have turned it into a very balanced, high-quality and world-famous wine.

Taittinger was founded in 1932 by Pierre-Charles Taittinger and has belonged to the same family ever since, currently being owned by his great-granddaughter Vitalie Taittinger, the fourth generation. Its wines were first produced from the estate of the firm Forest-Fourneaux but over time the family expanded its vineyards to the 290 hectares it now boasts – a real privilege. Taittinger has five vineyards classified as grand cru in the heart of the Côte des Blancs: Cramant, Avize, Chouilly, Oger and Mesnil-sur-Oger. It owns other vineyards located in the most prestigious areas of the appellation.

One of the winery’s distinctive features is the use of the white Chardonnay grape in all its blends. It’s also notable for its underground cellars stretching for kilometres, built centuries ago by the monks of the abbey of Saint-Nicaise in Rheims. There the wines are matured in optimum conditions before being released for sale. These cellars and the winery have enjoyed UNESCO World Heritage status since 2015.

Taittinger Brut Reserva (A.O.C. Champagne) is marvellous with smoked salmon, seafood such as oysters, or soupy lobster rice.

Creators' opinion

Bright, golden straw-yellow colour. Fine bubbles. Discreet and lasting mousse. The nose, highly expressive and open, has aromas of fruit and brioche, ending with peach, white flowers (hawthorn, acacia) and vanilla pods. Lively, fresh and harmonious on the attack, followed by delicate notes of fruit and honey. The Brut Reserva attains full maturity over the course of its three to four years in the winery’s cellars, developing its aromatic potential.

The winery

Winery

Founded in 1932 by Pierre-Charles Taittinger, the winery has remained in the hands of the same family, now reaching great-granddaughter Vitalie Taittinger, the fourth generation. The estate of the Forest-Fourneaux House was the origin of its wines, but over time this lineage has expanded its vineyards to the 290 hectares it currently owns, a true privilege. Taittinger boasts five vineyards classified as grand cru in the heart of the Côte des Blancs: Cramant, Avize, Chouilly, Oger, and Mesnil-sur-Oger. Additionally, it owns other vineyards located in the most prestigious areas of the appellation.

One of the main hallmarks of the winery is that the white grape chardonnay is part of all the blends of its wines. The winery is also distinguished by its underground cellars, which stretch for kilometers and were built centuries ago by the monks of the Abbey of Saint Nicaise in Reims. Here, the wines are harmonized under the best conditions before being released to the market. Since 2015, these cellars and the winery have been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
