Sot Lefriec 2020 is the jewel of the winery. A fantastic red wine made from a blend of different grape varieties such as merlot, cariñena, and cabernet sauvignon from their oldest vineyards (over 50 years old), planted on clay-limestone soils. This gem in the form of wine follows the philosophy of Alemany i Corrió, which is based on creating great terroir wines that are classic, fresh, balanced, profound, and expressive of the territory where they come from, the result of many years of work and reflection. The result is a mature, robust, and intense red wine.
Celler Alemany i Corrió is the personal project of Laurent Corrió and Irene Alemany, a couple who met in Burgundy while studying oenology. The winery was founded in 1999 as the first garage winery in Penedès. Their vineyards are located in Lavern, with different varieties such as merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and cariñena, ranging from 25 to 60 years of age. In recent years, they have also cultivated white grape varieties such as xarel·lo, chardonnay, and malvasía. Their philosophy focuses on keeping the process as natural as possible with the aim of fully representing the character of the grape varieties and the terroir.
With work based on respectful and sustainable viticulture, this sensational red wine from the D.O. Penedès is crafted. After a manual harvest in boxes, it underwent malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels, where it then aged. In pursuit of naturality, it has not been clarified or filtered. With an extremely limited production, Sot Lefriec 2020 pairs ideally with stews, casseroles, game meats, and feathered game.
Dark cherry color with a violet rim, clean and bright.
On the nose, it displays powerful, complex, and toasted aromas. Notes of sweet spices, creamy oak, ripe fruit, and earthy tones. The aroma of barrel aging in the background blends and harmonizes as a whole.
On the palate, it is rich in nuances, powerful and intense, with mature tannins and a persistent finish.
The adventure of Irene Alemany and Laurent Corrió in Penedès began in 1999. From that very moment, they have been a benchmark in the region for their way of crafting and understanding the world of wine.
The winery started its journey in a small warehouse in Vilafranca del Penedès. Its protagonists are the aforementioned Laurent Corrió, biochemist and winemaker, and his wife, also a winemaker, Irene Alemany.
The winery's vineyards are located in Lavern, covering 8 hectares cultivated on a gentle slope (around 15%), where varieties such as 24-year-old Merlot, 26-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon, and 60-year-old Cariñena are planted. Over the years, white varieties like Xarel·lo, Chardonnay, and Malvasía have been gradually cultivated.
At the Alemany i Corrió winery, the unique vineyard management stands out, with significant restrictions on production, as they aim for greater phenolic concentration in their grapes. Regarding the local climate, it is also noteworthy that there is a clear Mediterranean influence with various microclimates and significant thermal variation.
The philosophy of the winery is to craft their wines following a process as artisanal as possible, highlighting the utmost fidelity to the terroir.
