General information

In Séptima Obra Malbec Reserva 2023, 100% malbec, the grapes come from a selection of two areas in the Mendoza region: Luján de Cuyo and Valle de Uco, at an altitude between 1050 and 1100 m above sea level. From Luján de Cuyo, 24-year-old vines grown on sandy-loam soil in the Agrelo area, where the winery is located, were used. In the case of Valle de Uco, the vines come from Vista Flores, with 15-year-old vines on stony soil, and from La Consulta, 17-year-old plants on loamy soils with the presence of stones. On the other hand, 2023 was an early harvest that provided extraordinary health, wines with excellent natural acidity, and great aromatic expression.

The different selected lots from the various estates were hand-harvested during the month of March and vinified individually. Cold pre-fermentation maceration lasted 5 days. Then, fermentation took place using selected yeasts in some lots, and in other cases with native yeasts. Malolactic fermentation occurred in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the lots aged for 9 months in third-use French and American oak barrels. After blending and bottling, this red wine completed its aging with 3 months in the bottle.

The malbec variety is very profound, delivering very expressive wines, with abundant fruit, excellent structure, tannic richness, and amplitude. In this red wine, we find noble and mature tannins, very well integrated thanks to a magnificent aging process in used barrels. This translates into a smooth and pleasant palate.

Bodega Séptima belongs to the Raventós Codorníu wine group, one of the families with the longest winemaking tradition in Spain (since 1551). Raventós Codorníu already owned six wineries in Spain when, in 1999, they decided that the ‘seventh’ – hence its name – would be established in a region that amazed the world with its potential: Mendoza, Argentina. They arrived here and inaugurated Bodega Séptima in 2001 in the Agrelo area of Luján de Cuyo (Mendoza), at the foot of the Andes

Tasting notes

Cherry red color with good depth and violet hues.

Good intensity on the nose, featuring aromas of well-ripened red and black fruits that give way to spicy and balsamic notes; noble woods.

Balanced, flavorful, pleasant, with an aromatic, fresh, and mature palate. Fine and integrated tannins with a long-lasting finish.
