La Segreta Rosso 2022 comes from the historic vineyards of Dispensa, Buonivini, Maroccoli, and Gurra, located at altitudes of 75-415 meters, which the Planeta family has cultivated for centuries. These plots, managed under sustainable and organic farming practices, benefit from the Mediterranean climate with marine influences and heterogeneous soils, featuring limestone and clay. These elements underpin the quality of this Sicilian red wine.
The winemaking process begins with manual harvesting and transportation in small carts to preserve the integrity of the fruit. Once in the winery, the grapes are destemmed and gently pressed before being transferred to stainless steel tanks. Fermentation lasts between 7 and 8 days, with brief pump-overs to respect the grape skins and preserve the fruit. Temperatures are carefully controlled: cool at the start (16-17 °C) and warmer towards the end (24-25 °C) to complete alcoholic fermentation. Afterwards, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in the same tanks and remains there for maturation, refining its profile without losing freshness.

Their vineyards are not located in a single region but are spread across the entire island, allowing them to produce wines with various D.O.C and D.O.C.G. The Planeta family home and the main winery are located in Dispensa, in the northwest of the island. Here, they produce their La Segretta brand and top wines based on Merlot, Syrah, and Burdese.
