Sweet, elegant, vegan, and fair trade certified. This is Santa Digna Merlot 2024, one of the magnificent single-varietal wines that are part of the first line of wines Miguel Torres Chile produced in the Andean country three decades ago.

After an intense process of experimentation, which included various trial plantations in different locations and climates within Chile's best production areas, the Andean winery of the Torres family found the perfect site in the Central Valley to cultivate the merlot variety for creating a new addition to the Santa Digna line. Santa Digna Merlot 2024 is the latest vintage of a single-varietal red wine that, in previous editions, has boasted the highest distinctions in competitions such as the International Wine Challenge.

Fundo Maquehua, the first estate acquired by Miguel Torres Chile upon his arrival in the Latin American country in 1979, is the birthplace of Santa Digna Merlot 2024, where the French-origin grape reaches its fullest expression. After selecting the best fruits, the winemaking process, which included aging the obtained wine for 6 months in French oak barrels, resulted in a young red wine with aromas of plum and blackberry, and a long, spiced finish—perfect for enjoying with white meats, semi-fatty fish such as conger eel, or hearty legume stews.

Tasting notes

Santa Digna Merlot has a purple color with reddish hues.

On the nose, it reveals aromas of plums and blackberries, with notes of vanilla and licorice.

On the palate, it is sweet and elegant, with a toasted touch. It has a long and spicy aftertaste.

The winery

Miguel Torres Chile was the first foreign winemaking company to establish itself in this country of the Southern Cone. The Torres family, a centenary saga with a presence in the Spanish denominations Penedès, Priorat, Catalunya, Costers del Segre, Conca de Barberà, Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Rías Baixas, and Rioja, made the leap to the New World in 1979 to start a new project in the Curicó Valley, attracted by the great winemaking potential of Chile.

Currently, the company owns more than a thousand hectares of vineyards, distributed across plots with diverse climatic and soil characteristics, enabling the cultivation of different varieties and producing highly expressive wines with intense varietal character. Miguel Torres Chile has fully consolidated its position in the country, and its wines are now present in over a hundred other countries. Since 2010, Miguel Torres Maczassek, a member of the fifth generation of the family, has held the presidency of the company. Among his objectives are increasing exports and maintaining the company’s successful trajectory, marked by innovation and a commitment to organic farming and fair trade.
