The red wine Pico Tuerto 2021 owes its name to the geographical area where its vineyards are located, in the village of San Lorenzo del Bierzo, one of the highest peaks of the Montes Aquilanos (León).
At an altitude of over 600 meters, very old vines of the mencía variety, co-planted with doña blanca, are rooted, dating back to the early 20th century. These fragile vines, which have survived the passage of time, are the ones selected to produce Sangarida Pico Tuerto 2021 (D.O. Bierzo). After a delicate manual harvest and a natural spontaneous fermentation without sulfur, the wine underwent a skin maceration for at least two weeks with continuous pump-overs to achieve a gentle extraction. Following this, aging in 500-liter French oak barrels for 12 months completed a vinification process that resulted in a velvety wine, very elegant and with good aging potential.
Sangarida is the new project of the Fariña brothers in El Bierzo. With a long career in Rías Baixas, they were looking for a location that would respect the Atlantic character of their wines and provide them with a special palate. The D.O. Bierzo boasts one of the largest wine heritages in Europe and enjoys a highly peculiar climate that produces unique wines from native varieties.
It displays an intense and deep purple color.
Its nose is both refined and complex. Ripe red and black fruits stand out, along with spicy and mineral notes, so characteristic of this area.
On the palate, it shows a magnificent velvety tannic structure. An elegant wine with the aromatic notes anticipated on the nose and a long persistence.
