San Román Álamo 2024 is a special edition of the D.O. Toro produced by San Román Bodegas y Viñedos for Vinoselección. It is born as a red wine of 100 % Tinta de Toro with 18 months of ageing in 225-litre French oak, a careful and precise interpretation of a zone with a lot of personality.
Comes from vineyards located in different municipalities, with vines over 40 years old that provide depth and authenticity to the whole. The selection of these plots reflects a vineyard-centred way of working, with a focus on the expression of the terroir of Toro and the balance between ripeness and freshness.
San Román Bodegas y Viñedos was founded in 1997 by Mariano García together with his sons Eduardo and Alberto, and it quickly became a reference of the new era in the region. This edition for the Selección Thyssen also features on its label Gran pintura del ferrocarril, by László Moholy-Nagy, in a collaboration that unites wine and art with a highly recognisable identity.
Consumption features
Pairing
While many red wines from Toro stay with hearty dishes, San Román Álamo 2024 pairs much better with roast suckling lamb in the Castilian style, a grilled ribeye steak, or a stewed partridge. Its broad, tasty and elegant character also pairs wonderfully with game stews or lamb cutlets, bringing balance and enhancing every bite with its ripe fruit undertone and its fine tannins.
San Román Álamo 2024 has been aged for 18 months in 225-litre French oak barrels, which refines its profile and adds depth.

Tasting notes
View
San Román Álamo 2024 displays a ruby red colour that is well covered, with an intense and enveloping presence that hints at its character.
Nose
San Román Álamo 2024 unfolds a complex, clean, refined and intense nose. Notable are aromas of ripe red and black fruit, very well integrated, over a background of mineral and floral notes that add depth and freshness. In the background there are hints of coffee, liquorice, cocoa and toffee, which round off an elegant and highly expressive aromatic profile.
Mouth
While many Toro reds rely on power with no nuance, San Román Álamo 2024 stands out for a broad, savoury and elegant palate, where freshness sustains a very balanced whole. Its noble tannin adds texture and finesse, while the silky profile coats the palate naturally and leaves a gentle, polished and very pleasant sensation. The finish, long and persistent, rounds off a wine with great harmony and excellent expression on the palate.
The last turn of the century brought a significant revolution in the D.O. Toro. This historic wine region has experienced, over the last two decades, a meteoric rise to the elite of modern winemaking in the country. Among these new-generation Toros, praised by critics and awarded with the most prestigious international prizes, the wines of Bodegas y Viñedos Maurodos stand out.
Maurodos is the winery founded in 1997 by Mariano García (former winemaker of Vega Sicilia and creator of some of the best wines in the country) and his sons Eduardo and Alberto. Their first wine, San Román, debuted with the 1997 vintage and became an icon among the new-generation Toros, as well as one of the key players of the transformation. A red wine that, in addition to the characteristic strength of Toro wines, offered abundant fruit, elegance, maturity, and minerality.
San Román (aged for 22 to 25 months, depending on the vintage) synthesizes the best of Maurodos' vineyards, old Tinta de Toro vines cultivated using ecological methods. Years later, the Prima label was introduced, made from younger vines, easy to drink, fresh, and fruity. A winery committed to producing two wines that offer one of the best quality-to-price ratios on the market.
