Cafayate Valley is one of the highest-altitude wine-producing regions on the planet, located in the province of Salta, in the northwest of Argentina. There, vineyards are cultivated starting at 1500 meters above sea level, with some vines exceeding 3000 meters in altitude.
We traveled there to bring you the red wine Rutas de Cafayate Cabernet Sauvignon Expresivo 2022. The cabernet sauvignon clusters that make up this wine come from an estate located at 1750 meters above sea level. After harvest, they undergo a cold pre-maceration for 3 days at 8º C before starting the alcoholic fermentation process in stainless steel tanks. Once this phase is completed, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in the same tank before bottling and being released to the market.
Founded in 1850, Etchart is the oldest active winery in the Cafayate region of Argentina. In 1938, Arnaldo Benito Etchart acquired this winemaking house, which belonged to his wife Carmen Rosa's family, and revolutionized its production, turning it into one of the most famous wineries in America. Today, that legacy lives on in a property equipped with the latest technologies for crafting wines like Rutas de Cafayate Cabernet Sauvignon Expresivo 2022, which are sold in more than 30 countries around the world.
In appearance, it shows a beautiful ruby red color with the same-colored rim, of high intensity.
On the nose, it is elegant and intense. The initial aromatic notes correspond to forest fruits in jam (blackberry and cherry), followed by pleasant touches from the spicy series (clove and bay leaf). It concludes with hints of menthol, eucalyptus, and aromas of low mountain scrub.
On the palate, it is meaty, endowed with good smooth tannins. It finishes with a long and complex aftertaste.
