Rioja Vega Reserva 2021 is made from Tempranillo and Graciano grapes from vineyards over 30 years old. Its two years of ageing in oak and bottle rest give it an elegant, balanced and expressive profile.
Rioja Vega Reserva 2021 originates from Tempranillo and Graciano grapes, with a precise winemaking process in which each variety is vinified separately and then blended to complete a two-year ageing in oak barrels, followed by a minimum 12-month bottle age. It is a wine designed to gain depth with time and to showcase the house's classic pulse with a very careful reading of the vintage.
The grapes come from vineyards planted more than 30 years ago surrounding the winery, at an average altitude of 400 m. The clay-loam, calcareous and with abundant pebbles soils, together with a well-drained subsoil, promote balanced ripening and contribute to the wine's consistency, while also enhancing the expressiveness of Tempranillo.
Rioja Vega works with a philosophy centred on vineyard selection and meticulous winemaking, respecting the potential of each plot. The result is Rioja Vega Reserva 2021, a red with ageing potential, faithful to the style of a house that knows its surroundings well and translates it into serious, well-constructed wines with personality.

The alcoholic fermentation lasts for 10 days at a maximum temperature of 28 °C, while the maceration in contact with the skins extends 15 days at 18 °C, a combination that favours good integration of colour, structure and expression. Afterwards, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and racking before the first coupage.
Aging
24 months in oak barrels, with 95% American oak and 5% French oak.
Description
Rioja Vega Reserva 2021 comes from vineyards planted more than 30 years ago and situated in the surroundings of the winery, at an average altitude of 400 metres above sea level. Their soils combine loamy-clay, friable and abundant pebbles, a base that promotes good grape ripeness, adds quality to the tannins and proves especially suitable for producing wines with the capacity for extended maturation. In addition, the subsoil presents excellent internal drainage, with cracks that allow the roots to delve in search of water and nutrients, resulting in a wine with more structure and body. It is made from Tempranillo and Graciano.
Age
Made from vines planted over 30 years ago.
Viticulture
Clay-limestone soil, free-draining and speckled with cobbles marks the character of Rioja Vega Reserva 2021. It comes from vineyards aged over 30 years, situated around the winery at an average altitude of 400 m, where the vine finds a well-drained subsoil that forces the roots to delve deep in search of water and nutrients. It is traditional viticulture, meticulously cared for, aimed at producing grapes of great ripeness and quality tannins, and at creating wines with good structure and suitable for long ageing.
View
Deep plum red, with intense reflections.
Nose
It unfolds a complex and highly expressive nose. The ripe black fruits stand out, adding depth, together with balsamic notes that refresh the overall impression. In a secondary layer, subtle toasty notes and spicy nuances appear, completing a broad, elegant aromatic phase with excellent definition.
Mouth
Round, complex and mature on the palate, with a savoury, enveloping approach that fills the mouth without losing balance. Its tannic structure is firm and well defined, providing an expressive texture and a very pleasant sense of body, while the subtle spicy notes and the ripeness of the fruit accompany a long, well-structured and persistent progression. A red wine designed to offer immediate pleasure and, at the same time, leave a lasting impression with every sip.
Founded in 1882, Rioja Vega is one of the oldest and most historic wineries in our country. After a series of business ups and downs throughout the 20th century including a name change-, the company was acquired by the Grupo Príncipe de Viana and definitively entered modernity. Today, their wines are a faithful reflection of Rioja's winemaking tradition, and their prestige grows in proportion to the quality of their wines.
Rioja Vega has 70 hectares of vineyards where, on clay-limestone soils poor in organic matter, nutrients, and mineral salts, they cultivate garnacha, tempranillo, and graciano. The facilities -located in the Navarrese town of Viana, 10 kilometers from Logroño- have been progressively expanded and are equipped with the latest technology dedicated to producing quality wines.
