Just ten kilometers from Logroño, in the Navarrese town of Viana, lies Rioja Vega, nestled in the area known as "La Venta del Jalón." The winery – inspired by the classic French châteaux – is surrounded by 70 hectares of vineyards thriving in poor soils and under an Atlantic climate, conditions that lend character and authenticity to its wines. From this environment comes Rioja Vega Reserva 2019, crafted in an Excellent vintage with tempranillo and graciano grapes sourced from vines over 50 years old on the slopes of the Sierra Cantabria, combined with others aged 15 years located in the fertile plain of the estate.
The varieties are vinified separately, respecting their identity. Alcoholic fermentation lasts 10 days, followed by a maceration with the skins that extends for another 15 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, where the wine begins to refine. The aging of Rioja Vega Reserva 2019 is carried out over 24 months in oak barrels – 95% American and 5% French – and, after bottling, it rests for a minimum of 12 months in the bottle to reach its final balance.
Founded in 1882 by Felipe Ugalde, Rioja Vega is one of the pioneering wineries in the production of quality red wines within Spain's most renowned denomination of origin. Its history, even predating the official creation of the D.O., has allowed it to retain the name "Rioja" as part of its brand – a privilege that very few wineries can claim and one that reinforces the legacy of Rioja Vega Reserva 2019 as a symbol of tradition and excellence.
Founded in 1882, Rioja Vega is one of the oldest and most historic wineries in our country. After a series of business ups and downs throughout the 20th century including a name change-, the company was acquired by the Grupo Príncipe de Viana and definitively entered modernity. Today, their wines are a faithful reflection of Rioja's winemaking tradition, and their prestige grows in proportion to the quality of their wines.
Rioja Vega has 70 hectares of vineyards where, on clay-limestone soils poor in organic matter, nutrients, and mineral salts, they cultivate garnacha, tempranillo, and graciano. The facilities -located in the Navarrese town of Viana, 10 kilometers from Logroño- have been progressively expanded and are equipped with the latest technology dedicated to producing quality wines.
