Underpinned by an Excellent-rated vintage in the D.O. Ribera del Duero, Raíz 9 Meses 2021 is a single-varietal wine made from Tempranillo grapes picked from vines in Roa de Duero (Burgos). The vines, between 15 and 35 years old, grown at an altitude of 850 metres in sandy-loam and stony soils.
The grapes were harvested by hand in 15-kg crates. The bunches were sorted on tables and subsequently transferred to vats using a gravity-fed system. This was followed by cold maceration for about 5 days and fermentation at a controlled temperature. The wine was finally aged for 9 months in French (80%) and American (20%) oak barrels.
Raíz de Guamán started out in 1998 in Roa, Burgos. It owns 25 hectares of Tempranillo vines in poor soils at an altitude of between 750 and 1,000 metres. The name Raíz, meaning ‘root’, illustrates how this firm has been committed to respect for its origins since starting out. The winery has a hotel and restaurant and also runs the Páramo de Guzmán cheese farm, whose cheeses are held to be among the best in the world.
Raíz 9 Meses 2021 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is ideal with roast suckling pig or lamb with salad and potatoes.
Surprising aromas and freshness of the bluish tones (violet), which predominate over those of red fruit (cherries). Well-integrated oak lends it complexity with toasty notes of brioche and caramel and smoky hints like cocoa, toffee and coffee.
