Quinta Quietud's aim is to produce a wine that’s fully integrated into the environment where its vines grow with minimal interference with nature. For this reason, from start to finish the winemaking and grape growing processes are focused on achieving the faithful expression of a particular area and the Tinta de Toro red grape variety, in a fully organic concept. Quinta Quietud Colección Reserva 2018 is a straightforward wine, without pretence, and above all it has the personality of an authentic red wine made in Toro.
It's designed entirely with Tinta de Toro grapes from the winery's oldest vineyards that were gobelet trained and organically and dry farmed. They were harvested by hand in 15 kg crates and allowed to ferment spontaneously without added sulphites in open stainless steel tanks. The wine spent the six winter months in tanks on its fine lees, with batonnage (stirring), followed by 24 months in French oak barrels.
At the end of the last century, an international trend swept through the Denominación de Origen Toro. Some of the most important firms on the wine scene put down roots in this production area in the region of Castilla y León, attracting international attention from the sector, including from several prominent names in neighbouring France. A French couple eager to own old vineyards in one of the few areas in the world untouched by phylloxera, thanks to the sandy soils of Toro, seemed to go unnoticed among names like Vega Sicilia, the Eguren brothers and Louis Vuitton. That is how Quinta de la Quietud came about in 1999.
Their adventure was short-lived and, two years later, a group of businessmen headed by ex-football player Eusebio Sacristán took over the company and focused all their efforts on a non-interventionist and fully organic approach to the winery and its excellent estate located just two kilometres south of the left bank of the Duero River.
The winery's hectares of Toro red vines, certified as organic since 2002, lie at an altitude of around 700 metres above sea level in the heart of the production area. There, the French winemaker Jean-François Hebrard prescribes strict care of the vines, with respect for the soil, to ensure that the grapes express all their authentic qualities naturally. The perfect way to enjoy the Tinta de Toro variety in all its splendour, as in this Quinta Quietud Colección 2018.
