General Information

Origin and variety are the foundation of Quinta das Carvalhas Touriga Nacional 2017, a magnificent red wine produced by Real Companhia Velha, the oldest winemaking company in Portugal, with more than two and a half centuries of history.

Quinta das Carvalhas, one of the best estates in the Alto Douro, is the spectacular birthplace of this wine made entirely from a strict selection of old vines, almost a century old, of touriga nacional. After a vinification process that culminated in 12 months of aging in French oak barrels, Quinta das Carvalhas Touriga Nacional 2017 presents itself as an intense, complex, and classy single-varietal, ideal for accompanying meat stews and casseroles, roast lamb, grilled chicken, and even risottos. A classic red wine that will serve as an excellent guide to the wine scene of the neighboring country.

Tasting notes

Dark red color with deep violet hues.

On the nose, dominant aromas of black fruit (blackberry, currant) with herbaceous notes and others typical of barrel aging (coffee, vanilla, cinnamon).

On the palate, it stands out for its good acidity and powerful tannins. Smooth and delicious.

The winery

Founded in 1756 by a royal charter issued by José I of Portugal, Real Companhia Velha is the oldest winemaking company in the Portuguese territory and a true emblem in the Douro and Porto appellations.

The company boasts a heritage of 540 hectares of vineyards, distributed across some of the finest estates, mostly located on the left bank of the Douro River. Quinta das Carvalhas is the crown jewel. From this 600-hectare property, 120 of which are occupied by old vines, some up to 100 years old, come the most renowned wines of the brand, sold in over 45 countries, ranging from their Ruby Reserva to the vintages, including the more classic range of 10 and 20-year-old Ports or Tawny.
