Pujanza Hado 2019 is a clear example of the Laguardia terroir, one of the most prominent locations in Rioja Alavesa, with the personal interpretation of the expert winemaker and owner Carlos San Pedro. A red wine that represents the freshest version of the tempranillo in this privileged area. It is the only wine from the winery created with grapes from different plots, a total of 23, all in Laguardia at an altitude between 450 and 600 m, on clay-limestone soils.
Made 100% with tempranillo from a vintage rated as Excellent. Pre-fermentation maceration for 5 days. The fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks between 24 and 26º C with daily pump-overs. The malolactic fermentation was carried out in the same tanks. Finally, it aged for 12 months in 225 l French oak barrels.
The San Pedro surname is intrinsically related to wine production in Rioja Alavesa, for at least three generations, when Carlos San Pedro's grandfather was widely recognized by his Laguardia countrymen as the owner of some of the most coveted vineyards that adorn the slopes of the Sierra de Cantabria.
Carlos San Pedro belongs to a generation of Rioja winemakers, perfectly positioned, who have helped consolidate the D.O.Ca. Rioja as the leading national wine region thanks to his good work at Bodegas y Viñedos Pujanza (2002). From the beginning, his reds have been endorsed by the most renowned critics like Robert Parker.
Currently, Bodegas y Viñedos Pujanza brings together what Carlos San Pedro intended since childhood, to become the owner of his own vineyard with limited production, allowing for the creation of high-quality wines. Hado is the entry-level wine of the winery, perfect for beginning to explore the wines of this great brand.
Due to its organoleptic characteristics, the red Pujanza Hado 2019 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) will pair perfectly with lamb chops roasted over vine shoots.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it presents a beautiful ripe cherry red color with a ruby rim, and a high layer.
Elegant and complex on the nose, where aromas of ripe red fruits are appreciated, along with floral notes and pleasant balsamic touches (licorice); all in perfect harmony over a vanilla background.
On the palate, it is enveloping, flavorful, expressive, with a good fruit load that extends to the end, with a noble and smooth tannin and a magnificent well-balanced acidity. It closes with a long finish marked by toasted memories.
