General Information

Priorato de Razamonde Tinto 2017 is the perfect expression of the great potential of brancellao and sousón, two of the native red varieties of Ribeiro, the oldest denomination in Galicia. The good acidity of brancellao gives the wine a marked freshness and good structure, while sousón, a grape highly valued in blends, adds to the whole with chromatic, aromatic, and gustatory intensity, with a great fruit load and a slight floral touch, giving it elegance and distinction.

To produce this delicious red that the Club brings you, Priorato de Razamonde ensured to select the best fruits of both varieties by carrying out a double selection of them, first in the vineyard itself, and later in the winery. Also noteworthy is the aging process the wine underwent: first, it remained for a month in chestnut barrels, and then moved to American oak, where it rested for a total of 6 months.

Priorato de Razamonde Tinto 2017 is exquisite when paired with typical Galician cuisine dishes such as lacón con grelos or octopus, or with good grilled and barbecued meats. Its production is limited, so enjoying this wine from the D.O. Ribeiro is almost a small privilege.

Tasting notes

Of high layer and garnet red color with violet highlights.

Intense on the nose, with aromas of red fruits (cherry, strawberry, and blueberry) that stand out over subtle notes from the aging process.

On the palate, it is structured and fresh. Very aromatic aftertaste.

The winery

Priorato de Razamonde is a family-owned winery founded in 1998 in the town of Cenlle (Orense) by the four Pérez Pousa siblings. The name of the winery comes from its location, known as Granxa de Razamonde, an estate that once belonged to the monastery of San Martín Pinario in Santiago de Compostela.

In its early days, the family vineyard barely covered one hectare. Gradually, the winery grew and today, with its 24 hectares of vines, it is one of the most important in the D.O. Ribeiro. 90% of the vines at Priorato de Razamonde are white grape varieties such as treixadura, godello, and loureira, while the remaining 10% is divided between the red varieties sausón and godello tinto or merenzao. The replanting of these almost extinct native varieties is one of the commitments of this Galician winery, representing a sought-after return to its roots.

This traditional approach, combined with the latest winemaking techniques, using the most modern stainless steel tanks and the finest oak woods, under the enological direction of Pablo Estévez, results in four exceptional wines: Alter and Priorato de Razamonde, available in both white and red versions, which capture the essence of Galicia's oldest appellation.
