Prados Privé 2021 is a red wine that embodies the serious commitment of Bodega Pagos del Moncayo to syrah, a variety that the Aibar family-owned winery introduced to Campo de Borja almost two decades ago. The star of the Aragonese house is a balanced and silky red wine, originating from La Loma, just over 7 hectares of vineyard located at an altitude of 350 to 450 meters in Bisimbre, the lower area of the D.O.

The bio-cultivation practices employed in the care of the vines left their mark on Prados Privé 2021, a wine that, during its vinification process, included grape treading, alcoholic fermentation in open vats, and 12 months of aging in new French and American oak barrels. This red wine, part of the D.O. Campo de Borja, is the ideal choice to accompany hearty dishes such as lamb stews, grilled ribeye, or lobster stew.

Tasting notes

It displays an intense purple color.

Fresh nose of thyme and rosemary.

On the palate, it is very ample, flavorful, and dense. It stands out for its pure ripe fruit and silkiness, with soft spicy notes from its time in barrel. Balanced, with good acidity and a generous, long finish.

The winery

Bodega Pagos del Moncayo is a small family-owned winery founded in 2006 by Pedro Aibar, a viticulturist and former president of the regulatory council of the D.O. Campo de Borja, and his son, also named Pedro Aibar, one of the most renowned winemakers in the national scene (Viñas del Vero, El Coto de Rioja).

The winery, located at the foot of the Sierra del Moncayo, in the municipality of Vera de Moncayo in Zaragoza, is supported by a small and select vineyard of just over 7 hectares, divided into four plots distributed across the municipalities of Magallón (El Rincón de La Corona and Los Blanquizales) and Bisimbre (La Marga and La Loma). The Aibar family works with Syrah and the flagship variety of the D.O. Campo de Borja, Garnacha tinta, with vines that are over 80 years old.

In addition to this enviable heritage, another distinctive feature of Bodega Pagos del Moncayo is its winemaking philosophy, based on tradition, craftsmanship, and ecology. The Zaragoza-based winery harvests manually, follows traditional techniques such as grape treading, uses open vats for maceration, opts for photovoltaic energy to power its facilities, biologically controls its vineyards without pesticides or chemicals, and reuses grape skins and other fruit residues as compost, among other practices. All of this, besides contributing to the creation of honest, high-quality red wines that perfectly reflect their origin and have won prestigious awards, has earned Pagos del Moncayo the Eco-Prowine ecological label, which the European Union awards to sustainable wines.
