General Information

La Poda Tinta de Toro 2023 is born in the heart of the Guareña River valley as one of the freshest and most contemporary expressions of Tinta de Toro. This single-varietal wine, made from grapes sourced from over 40-year-old estate vineyards, reflects the perfect balance between tradition and modernity. Its vinification begins with a four-day cold maceration to preserve the fruit and extract maximum color, followed by controlled fermentation and aging for 4 to 6 months in barrels, which adds finesse without overshadowing the fruit.

La Poda Tinta de Toro 2023 has a fruity character that remains vibrant, yet enriched by the aging process, making it a versatile red wine with personality and great enjoyment potential. Designed to be shared without complications, this wine is perfect for casual gatherings, appetizers, barbecues, or simply toasting with friends. La Poda Tinta de Toro 2023 is an invitation to rediscover the D.O. Toro from a fresher, more accessible, and contemporary perspective, without losing the intensity and authenticity that define this region.

For pairing, it will be the ideal companion for dishes like pepper-crusted ribeye, oven-roasted confit suckling pig, and aged, intense cheeses.

Tasting notes

La Poda Tinta de Toro 2023 presents itself in the glass with an intense ruby color.

Its nose is complex, with notes of ripe fruit intertwined with sweet spices and subtle toasty aromas.

On the palate, it is a well-structured wine, with a silky texture and a long, flavorful finish.

The winery

Bodegas y Viñedos Viña Mayor

The upward trajectory of Bodegas y Viñedos Viña Mayor, founded in Quintanilla de Onésimo in 1986, has run parallel to the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin, established four years earlier. The success of its two brands, Viña Mayor and Secreto, has only enhanced the reputation of a winery known worldwide and admired for the excellent value for money of its wines.

On the other hand, Viña Mayor is a company highly committed to caring for the planet: it works with plans for energy and water efficiency, resource consumption, and waste generation, which has led it to achieve the Wineries for Climate Protection certification, the only certification in Spain that endorses wineries working sustainably.

In February 2024, the Portuguese company Sogrape acquired the winery from the Entrecanales Domecq e Hijos group.
