Perelada Finca La Garriga 2020 comes from a historic estate in Mollet de Peralada (Alt Empordà, Girona), with 41 hectares of flat terrain and silty-clay soils with sand and gravel. The climate is Mediterranean, influenced by the tramontana, a strong north wind that helps maintain the health of the vineyard. The samsó vines are over 50 years old, offering low yields and concentrated grapes that reflect the identity of the terroir: power, freshness, and an unmistakable balsamic profile.
The winemaking process begins with manual harvesting, taking care of every detail from the start. Fermentation takes place in wooden vats at a controlled temperature of 24–25 ºC, accompanied by long macerations to extract color and structure. After this process, the wine undergoes aging for 12 months in new Bordeaux barrels made of fine-grain American oak, followed by bottle aging to refine the tannins and round out the overall profile. The result is a deep, elegant wine with remarkable aging potential.
Celler Perelada is synonymous with history and innovation. Since 1923, the Suqué Mateu family, who leads the winery, has revitalized the winemaking tradition of the Empordà, combining innovation with respect for the landscape. Today, Perelada is an international benchmark, with a pioneering winery in sustainability (LEED Gold certification) and responsible practices that place it among the most admired brands in the world. Perelada Finca La Garriga embodies this philosophy: authenticity, excellence, and commitment to the environment.
Perelada Finca La Garriga 2020 is ideal for meat stews, hearty spoon dishes, rice with ribs, red meats, and game. Its structure and freshness harmonize with intense recipes and deep flavors.
The production of wine at the Castillo de Perelada has been documented since the Middle Ages. When Miguel Mateu purchased this monumental complex in 1923, one of his main objectives was to revitalize this winemaking tradition, a tradition that is now more alive than ever and has incorporated the most modern technology to produce wines that fully capture the nuances of the soils and vineyards of the Empordà.
It was in the town of Peralada where Miguel Mateu Pla discovered and became passionate about the world of wine, and where he decided to establish the Castillo Perelada winery, reviving a centuries-old tradition that dates back to the 14th century. In the early 1990s, Castillo Perelada decided to focus on producing high-quality wines, what some refer to as high-expression wines. This new approach has materialized through a series of investments in research and development.
This small area of land concentrates a variety of soils found in very few places: slate slopes, sandy plains, fluvial sediment, soils rich in silt and clay, gravel soils... This heterogeneity of terrains allows Castillo de Perelada to harvest grapes with an extensive range of nuances in each vintage, enabling the production of complex wines full of character. It comprises five different estates with a total of 150 hectares.
In 2022, Celler Perelada inaugurated the new winery, conceived by the Suqué Mateu family together with RCR Arquitectes, a Spanish studio that received the Pritzker Prize in 2017, considered the Nobel of Architecture.
