On the nose, it reveals a captivating fruity expression, dominated by notes of ripe black fruits, such as plums and blackberries.
On the palate, those fruity notes perceived on the nose reappear, accompanied by soft tannins and a long, persistent finish.
The winery
Château Pichon Longueville Baron is one of the most renowned wineries in Pauillac and one of the most prestigious in the Bordeaux region. The estate was founded by Baron Jacques Pichon Longueville in 1694, the year in which Château Pichon Baron, the celebrated Grand Vin of the house, was produced for the first time.
In the 19th century, 1850 marked a turning point in the history of the château. The then baron, Raoul Pichon Longueville, commissioned the construction of the spectacular castle in the heart of the vineyard, flanked by two large towers, which became the unmistakable symbol of the estate. Its Grand Vin was classified as a Second Grand Cru Classé according to the official Bordeaux wine classification.
In 1933, the winery ceased to be owned by the Pichon de Longueville family and was acquired by the Bouteiller family, who managed it for over 50 years. In 1987, it was finally purchased by AXA Millésimes, a subsidiary of the AXA insurance group. At the end of 2000, Christian Seely was appointed general manager in Bordeaux and thus took charge of Château Pichon Longueville Baron’s future.
With the support of AXA Millésimes, both the winery and the castle have undergone comprehensive restoration, and the estate’s wines have reached their full potential. This success is thanks to the expertise of the technical team and, above all, the exceptional 73-hectare vineyard from which they originate. Planted on high-quality gravel soil, low in nutrients and with scarce water, the vines—cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, and pinot verdot—with an average age of 35 years, are divided into separate plots, receiving specific care and attention according to their varietal profile.
