Pure concentration and intensity, Oremus Eszencia 2007 is the crown jewel of tokaji, the famous sweet whites from that mythical Hungarian region. A legendary wine.
Luis XIV of France named it the "wine of kings." Tokaji aszú, a sweet white wine from the Hungarian mountainous region of Tokaj, is unique in the world, and Oremus Eszencia 2007 belongs to its most exclusive and exquisite line. Its uniqueness lies in the grapes used in its production, furmint and hárslevelü, affected by botrytis, the so-called noble rot. This condition gives the fruits great complexity, aromatic richness, and a high concentration of sugar that, not fully fermenting, results in a very low alcohol content.
Oremus, the winery owned by Vega Sicilia, is the creator of this authentic oenological jewel that is only produced in excellent years, when the harvest of these noble berries is especially abundant. Each picker gathers, berry by berry, between 5 and 10 kilos of grapes per day, which are left to rest for another 15-20 days.
The must is obtained by the slight pressure exerted by the weight of the berries themselves. After this time, it is transferred to 50-liter glass containers, where it undergoes a very slow fermentation. After two years, the aszú is moved to 68-liter barrels called átalag, where it continues to refine. Once bottled, it will continue to mature, even for several more decades.
The myth of Tokaj wines has only grown over its more than 400 years of history, but it was not until 1630 that the greatness of the Oremus vineyard was mentioned for the first time. Today, it is the most recognized worldwide. Located in the northwest of Hungary, the winery has belonged to Vega Sicilia since 1993. Thanks to their support, the tokaji wines produced there have regained the former splendor and prestige that elevated them in the 17th century.
