There’s nobody – wine lovers or otherwise – who hasn’t heard about this iconic brand from Ribera del Duero. CM de Matarromera is its sister company based in Rioja, where after ten years of success it’s already one of the most important wineries in the Denominación (CM are the initials of the founder: wine producer Carlos Moro). In addition to fantastic Rioja wines, CM de Matarromera also produces this white wine from its own vineyards in the D.O. Rueda. Oinoz Verdejo 2024 was grown on two plots in Villalba de Adaja (Matapozuelos, Valladolid), where the gravelly and sandy soils are conducive to optimal ripening and freshness. It’s a single-varietal that showcases the full potential of the Verdejo variety with its distinctive hints of aniseed combined with fruity aromas. It’s mouth-filling and round on the palate due to ageing on the lees. You’ll come back for more.

General Information

Oinoz Verdejo 2024 is made from 100% Verdejo grapes from the firm’s own vineyards in the D.O. Rueda. The grapes come from two plots: La Buitrera and Carralancha, in Villalba de Adaja (Matapozuelos, Valladolid), with gravelly and sandy soils where the grapes ripen well. The yeasts used in fermentation are extracted from these vines and lend the wine personality. Both vineyards total 13 hectares, are located at an altitude of 725 metres above sea level and were planted in the year 2000, and are currently in their prime.

Bodega CM de Matarromera marks a further step forward in the diversification strategy of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera, which already produces reds outside its native Ribera del Duero in Denominaciones such as Toro, Cigales and, since 2014, Rioja.

Bodegas Familiares Matarromera’s carefully planned expansion into the D.O.Ca. Rioja was one of the most famous phenomena on the Spanish wine scene. In 2014 the renowned businessman and winemaker Carlos Moro established his Rioja operations centre in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, investing in some of the most sought-after vineyards in the area.

The OINOZ range is made up of two red wines from Rioja and a Verdejo from Rueda, the one we’re offering you. The name (OINOZ) alludes to the origin of wine, as it was one of the first names given to a primitive fermented grape juice – the theory that it originated in in the countries around the Mediterranean Sea.

The white wine Oinoz Verdejo 2024 (D.O. Rueda) is ideal with fish paella or baked hake.

The winery

Bodega CM de Matarromera
Founded in 2014 in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Bodega CM de Matarromera (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is another remarkable project by the renowned Castilian-Leonese winemaker Carlos Moro, owner of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera. This venture was born from Carlos Moro's desire to expand Bodegas Familiares Matarromera and become part of a denomination of origin as prestigious and iconic as Rioja (prior to the creation of Bodega CM de Matarromera, Bodegas Familiares Matarromera included only wineries within the denominations of origin influenced by the Duero River).

A business project aimed at producing high-end wines and sharing the philosophy upon which Bodegas Familiares Matarromera is founded: innovation, respect for sustainability and the environment, and the pursuit of the highest quality. Bodega CM de Matarromera owns 30 hectares of its own vineyards distributed across various plots located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida, as well as 60 controlled hectares situated in these towns and Ábalos.

The winery's facilities feature an impressive 300-meter-long underground cellar that houses 2,000 American and French oak barrels. Currently, Bodega CM de Matarromera produces the brands CM and Oinoz (D.O.Ca. Rioja). Additionally, this initiative also includes other select estate wines from symbolic vineyards in other denominations of origin, such as Toro, Rueda, Ribera del Duero, and Cigales.
