O Chao 2022 is a wine crafted by Bodegas Valdesil exclusively with the fruits of O Chao, a low-yield plot planted in 1941 on the left bank of the Sil River, at an altitude of 600 meters. The godello cultivated in this peza comes from a family clone of Pedrouzos from 1885 and expresses all the uniqueness of the sandy-loam colluvial soils, a product of the weathering of granite rock, where the vines take root.
To create O Chao 2022, Bodegas Valdesil followed, as is their custom, a traditional and extremely meticulous winemaking process, which included, among other steps, a brief skin maceration, static settling, fermentation with native yeasts, and aging for 18 months—6 on lees in barrels and 12 more in tanks without them.
O Chao 2022 was manually bottled without prior stabilization to preserve its delicate natural aromas. A true parcel jewel from Valdeorras that will captivate you with its elegance, astonishing minerality, richness of nuances, good body, and great aging potential.
Displays a striking new gold color to the eye.
Elegant aromatic complexity marked by a delicate nose of aromas that evoke jasmine flowers over a background of orange peel.
Incredibly creamy and full-bodied on the palate, with excellent balance leading to a long and mineral finish.
Valdesil has been one of the key players in the recovery of Godello in Galicia, an excellent native variety capable of competing in quality with any white grape in our country. The winery, located in Córgomo, in the municipality of Vilamartín de Valdeorras in Ourense, has uniquely harnessed the slate slopes of the region, which are responsible for the unmistakable minerality of the wines from this area.
Valdesil is owned by the third generation of the Prada Gayoso family, a family with a long winemaking tradition that, just over a decade ago, decided to recover all the "pezas" (plots) of Godello that had belonged to them in the past. In just a few years and through hard work, the winery has established itself as one of the most important wine producers in the D.O. Valdeorras, with its influence extending to Bierzo with remarkable success. The responsibility for the winery's production lies with the Prada Gayoso family, supported externally by Cristina Mantilla in oenology and José Ramón Lissarrague in viticulture.
