The grapes of the French varieties pinot noir, chardonnay, and pinot meunier needed to produce Nyetimber Rosé come from various vineyards with south-facing orientation, cultivated on unique green sand and chalk soils in the hills of southern England. These characteristics, combined with a careful blending of wines from different vintages, resulted in a very dry and sparkling rosé that impresses with its aromas of red mango and honey and its distinctive flavor of licorice and red fruits.
For more than 30 years, the Nyetimber winery has been dedicated to achieving a single goal: producing English sparkling wines of a quality that can rival the best in the world. They craft their wines with grapes from their own vineyards of the French varieties pinot noir, chardonnay, and meunier, using the traditional method.
The Nyetimber house is a true pioneer and one of the most important names in the production of high-quality English sparkling wines. A great example of this is the vibrant Nyetimber Rosé, which belongs to the D.O. West Sussex.
Old rose-red color with coppery tones. It presents small and pleasant bubbles.
On the nose, aromas of red mango, honey, hints of star anise, cardamom, and aliso unfold.
On the palate, it shows great intensity with notes of red licorice, red cherry, and redcurrant flavors. Pleasant texture, round and broad, yet smooth. The finish is very long and filled with memories of redcurrants and hints of shortcrust pastry.
The origins of the Nyetimber estate date back to the year 1086, but it was not until 1988 that the first vineyards of the French varieties chardonnay, pinot noir, and meunier were planted in the heart of southern England, making them true pioneers.
Another key date for Nyetimber is 2006, when the estate was acquired by Eric Heerema. With a clear vision for the winery, Heerema decided to hire the winemaking couple Cherie Spriggs and Brad Greatrix.
The 152-hectare estate features green sand and chalk soils, where their own vineyards are cultivated, giving rise to all Nyetimber wines. The vineyards are located in plots in Sussex, Hampshire, and Kent, nestled on the slopes and hillsides of the South Down ridge in southern England.
The terroir of these slopes is very similar to the Champagne region due to its chalk vein. The climate is cool and ideal for slow ripening and optimal acidity in the grapes, a key characteristic for achieving the goal of producing sparkling wines of outstanding quality.
The winery is characterized by its winemaking process focused on the traditional method, with gentle grape pressing, base wine fermentation in stainless steel, and a second fermentation in the bottle, where it ages on its lees for 3 to 5 years until disgorgement.
With this method, Nyetimber has, over the last 30 years, become one of the finest producers of English sparkling wine, capable of rivaling any brand worldwide.
