The Marqués de Velilla winery is located in La Horra (Burgos), an area with a winemaking tradition dating back to pre-Roman times and enjoying great prestige today. Núa Crianza 2020, exclusive to Vinoselección, is a delicious single-varietal tempranillo aged for 12 months in new French and American oak barrels, followed by an additional 12 months of bottle aging.
Founded in 1985 by the Segovian Hernández de Mercado family, Marqués de Velilla is situated in La Horra (Burgos) and boasts one of the most spectacular estates in the heart of Ribera del Duero: Monte Villalobón. Located on a hill overlooking the vineyard, the winery is integrated into the landscape. The philosophy of Marqués de Velilla focuses on giving the utmost care to the vineyard and crafting wines that reflect the ‘terroir’.
Núa is a wine we discovered during one of our visits to the winery in 2003. We were looking for a red wine that, as we had been told, stood out from the traditional line of the winery. When we tasted it, we liked it so much that we bought the entire batch and decided to name it “nua,” which means “naked” in Portuguese, a name that fit this red wine where the tempranillo naturally achieved that balance we most appreciate in wines. The rest is history at the Club, as more than 20 years have passed, and this Ribera del Duero has become one of Vinoselección’s best-selling wines.
The red Núa Crianza 2020 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) pairs wonderfully with grilled Iberian pork or “patatas revolconas” with crispy pork belly.
Founded in 1985 by the Hernández de Mercado family from Segovia, Marqués de Velilla boasts one of the most spectacular estates in Ribera del Duero, Monte Villalobón. A property located at the heart of what is considered by many experts to be the best area of the appellation: the triangle formed by Roa, Anguix, and La Horra (Burgos).
On a hill, overlooking the vineyard, stands the winery, perfectly integrated into the landscape, whose philosophy focuses on vineyard care, respect for the terroir, and reverence for the grape, which is meticulously tended from its birth to its transformation into wine.
