Neno de Viña Somoza 2023 is, as its name indicates (neno in Galician means child), the pampered youngest of the esteemed whites from Bodegas Viña Somoza. Their mastery of godello has earned the Galician winery the favor of both the public and critics since the beginning of their journey almost 20 years ago. This is demonstrated by the large number of national and international awards accumulated so far and the presence of their wines, like this one brought to you by the Club, in some of the best restaurants in the world, such as David Muñoz's DiverXo.
For the production of Neno de Viña Somoza 2023, Bodegas Viña Somoza carried out a meticulous manual selection of godello grapes from various plots they own in the easternmost part of the province of Ourense. The vines, between 30 and 40 years old, stand out for their location at different altitudes and in various types of soil (from slate to granite, including sandy and alluvial), a circumstance that provides the fruits with an interesting complexity. Enjoy it and the creaminess and good acidity on the palate of this white from the D.O. Valdeorras by pairing it with all kinds of seafood rice dishes, white fish, and shellfish such as razor clams, cockles, or scallops.
In appearance, Neno de Viña Somoza boasts a beautiful greenish-yellow color, very clean and intense, with golden reflections.
On the nose, aromas of white fruit (apple, pear), white flowers, and a vegetal background of hinojo stand out, characterizing the great wines made with godello.
Broad, very fresh, and balanced on the palate. It is unctuous, shows good acidity, and predominance of balsamic and floral notes. Long and persistent aftertaste with a slight varietal bitterness.
