Montenovo 2025 is a single-varietal white wine made from godello, named by Bodegas Valdesil with the Galician word ‘montenovo’ (which means young mountain) to reference its origin, the hills flanking the Sil River valley. Enjoy this pure and unadorned godello.

Montenovo 2025 was born from godello grapes harvested from vineyards between 5 and 20 years old, located in the municipalities of Rubiá, O Barco, Vilamartín, A Rúa, and Freixido, presenting itself as a young wine with captivating aromatic intensity, refreshing natural acidity, and pronounced minerality.

Bodegas Valdesil is one of the key players in the revival of godello in the D.O. Valdeorras. They have achieved this by crafting magnificent single-varietals like this Montenovo 2025. After a strict selection of the grapes, both in the vineyard and in the winery, and a brief maceration, fermentation was carried out with wild yeasts in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures to create a white wine with delightful aromatic complexity and good aging potential in the bottle.

Tasting notes

In appearance, the Montenovo white wine displays a straw yellow color with slight greenish reflections.

Elegant nose of ripe stone fruit and white flowers, with citrus and mineral touches.

The tasting phase is characterized by its great freshness and elegance. A pleasant and flavorful finish.

The winery

Valdesil has been one of the key players in the recovery of Godello in Galicia, an excellent native variety capable of competing in quality with any white grape in our country. The winery, located in Córgomo, in the municipality of Vilamartín de Valdeorras in Ourense, has uniquely harnessed the slate slopes of the region, which are responsible for the unmistakable minerality of the wines from this area.

Valdesil is owned by the third generation of the Prada Gayoso family, a family with a long winemaking tradition that, just over a decade ago, decided to recover all the "pezas" (plots) of Godello that had belonged to them in the past. In just a few years and through hard work, the winery has established itself as one of the most important wine producers in the D.O. Valdeorras, with its influence extending to Bierzo with remarkable success. The responsibility for the winery's production lies with the Prada Gayoso family, supported externally by Cristina Mantilla in oenology and José Ramón Lissarrague in viticulture.
