Montecillo is part of the exclusive club of centenary wineries in Rioja. The enological mastery combined with high-level raw materials make it possible for their red wines to be timeless classics. A good example of this is Montecillo Gran Reserva 2015, made exclusively in great vintages, with old vines from the Rioja Alta area. A subtle and silky red wine, pleasant and with great finesse.

Montecillo Gran Reserva 2015 is a red wine with which Bodegas Montecillo aims to reflect the purest Riojan classicism, its elegance, and tradition. It is made from a blend of 90% tempranillo and 10% graciano from vines over 35 years old, grown in bush form on poor sandy soils in the Rioja Alta area. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28ºC, with prior bleeding and a long maceration of three weeks in contact with the skins. Finally, it received 30 months of aging in French oak and a refinement in the bottle for four years.
Founded in 1874 by Celestino Navajas, the wines of Bodegas Montecillo enjoy a good market position, maintaining a consistent line that offers credibility. The winery is located in the heart of Rioja Alta, in Fuenmayor, and produces wine with a selection of the best vineyards in the subzone. Mastery in long aging is one of its main hallmarks. The aging of its wines takes place in an underground cellar, where they age in perfect conditions.
D.O.Ca. Rioja pairs perfectly with dishes such as pork tenderloin with a reduction of forest fruit juice or a good grilled beef loin.
Montecillo Gran Reserva exhibits a beautiful ruby red color with cherry highlights. Medium layer with a clean and bright rim. On the nose, it is tremendously clean, as the wine opens up and aerates, it offers an array of notes of stewed fruit, vanilla, toasted bread, tobacco, and nutmeg that become intense and powerful. On the palate, it is seductive and silky, yet maintains a structure and acidity that guide the mouthfeel magnificently. Polished tannin, with the prominence of exquisite wood in the aftertaste. Long on the sip with a silky and fresh aftertaste.
Bodegas Montecillo was founded in 1870 by Celestino Navajas Matute, being the oldest winery in the municipality of Fuenmayor and the third oldest winery of the D.O.Ca. Rioja. Since 1973, Montecillo has belonged to the Osborne Family, and today it has become one of the benchmarks for long-aged wines. It produces the Clásica range (Crianza, Reserva, Gran Reserva, a white and a rosé), signature wines, and the Viña Monty range, which represents the most avant-garde winemaking trend of the centenary winery, committed to traditional production with a renewed approach.
Bodegas Montecillo has underground cellars that house vintages dating back to 1926, as well as an impressive manual bottle rack.
