With Montecillo 22 Barricas Gran Reserva 2017, the Osborne group winery pays tribute to traditional Rioja winemaking and its founder, Celestino Navajas. An exceptional coupage of 4 grape varieties and an aging process of over 34 months in barrels have resulted in a gran reserva that stands out for its character and great aromatic richness. Expressive, seductive, with elegant tannins and well-integrated acidity, this red wine is the perfect companion to Mediterranean cuisine dishes.

Montecillo 22 Barricas Gran Reserva is a wine with a very high layer, brilliant and with a cherry red tone with slight hints of cherry color. On the nose, it is an overwhelming wine when served in the glass, with exceptional notes of wood, reminiscent of mahogany, vanilla, and toffee. When oxygenated, it reveals complexity, with ripe fruit, blackberry, blueberry, and black plum. On the palate, it stands out for its breadth and elegance, with exquisite natural acidity, enveloping a polished and silky final tannin, with a perfect balance of fruit and wood. A passage through the palate with a mineral background. A wine with a long finish where notes of noble woods and stewed fruits reappear.
Bodegas Montecillo was founded in 1870 by Celestino Navajas Matute, being the oldest winery in the municipality of Fuenmayor and the third oldest winery of the D.O.Ca. Rioja. Since 1973, Montecillo has belonged to the Osborne Family, and today it has become one of the benchmarks for long-aged wines. It produces the Clásica range (Crianza, Reserva, Gran Reserva, a white and a rosé), signature wines, and the Viña Monty range, which represents the most avant-garde winemaking trend of the centenary winery, committed to traditional production with a renewed approach.
Bodegas Montecillo has underground cellars that house vintages dating back to 1926, as well as an impressive manual bottle rack.
