The García family has established their Monteabellón project in just over two decades of existence. The key to their success lies in a magnificent high-altitude vineyard in Nava de Roa (Burgos) and an extensive background in soils, as this lineage has been dedicated to viticulture for generations. We have the privilege of presenting the third vintage of a wine that everyone loves and that the winery produces exclusively for us: Monteabellón 14 Meses 2022. It originates from the legendary La Blanquera estate, with poor and limestone soils, where the tempranillo achieves a magnificent expression, aged for 14 months in barrels. A Ribera del Duero with a complex and fragrant nose and an elegant palate that leaves an unforgettable impression.

General Information

At an altitude of approximately 900 m in Nava de Roa (Burgos) lies the legendary estate La Blanquera, the most treasured of the winery. On its slopes grow unique vineyards with characteristics that make them truly different. These are south-facing vines, which means greater sun exposure, on a calcareous clay soil with stones, shallow due to the rocky terrain. From here come the grapes that nourish Monteabellón 14 Meses 2022. A Tempranillo aged for 14 months in barrels, 70% French oak and 30% American oak.

Bodegas Monteabellón (2000) is an initiative developed by the García family in Ribera del Duero, which began by producing wine from their own vineyards managed in Nava de Roa, one of the most sought-after areas of the Denomination of Origin. Adding to this an organic viticulture with minimal intervention in the vineyard and integration into the Ribera habitat, the results are deep, balanced wines with great complexity and harmony. The productions are extremely limited.

Monteabellón 14 Meses 2022 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is ideal to pair with pork tenderloin in a forest fruit reduction or a fine grilled beef loin.

Tasting notes

Beautiful ripe cherry red color with garnet rim, high layer, lively and bright.

Concentrated, complex, and fragrant nose. The first notes correspond to ripe black fruits (blackberries, sloes, and cassis). In the background, reminiscences of cocoa and spicy hints (vanilla) appear. The aromatic journey concludes with delicate smoky and toasted oak touches.

On the palate, it is flavorful, elegant, and mature. Its passage offers tactile sensations full of fruity character and ripeness, with a splendid balance between structure, acidity, and alcohol. A perfect fusion of the tasting notes provided by the careful aging in oak barrels and the personality of a great tempranillo from Ribera del Duero. Long and complex retronasal pathway, where echoes of ripe black fruits and a hint of dark chocolate stand out.

The winery

Bodegas Monteabellón
In the year 2000, the fourth generation of the García family, renowned viticulturists from Ribera del Duero, decided to start producing wine from their own vineyards and created the Bodegas Monteabellón project in Nava de Roa (Burgos). Their extensive knowledge of the region's viticultural heritage, the strict limitation on vineyard yields, and cutting-edge winemaking supported by the latest vinification technologies position this as one of the most remarkable recent projects in the D.O. Ribera del Duero.

The great value of Bodegas Monteabellón lies in the 160 hectares of vineyards it controls around Nava de Roa, mainly of the tempranillo (tinta de país) variety. These vines provide the grapes for their wines, but if they do not meet the stringent requirements set by the García family, they are harvested and sold to other wineries in the region. Nevertheless, all the vineyards managed by Bodegas Monteabellón are meticulously identified by plots, with quality differentiated based on the age of the vines and the altitude of the parcels.

Thus, the young or less-aged wines are sourced from parcels located closer to the Duero River. The second working zone consists of parcels farther from the Castilian river and at higher altitudes, with sandy-loam soils containing limestone and clay. Finally, the vineyards situated at the highest altitudes, on stony soils with a high limestone content, offer extreme conditions that yield clusters perfect for superior aging.
