Melior Verdejo 2025 is made 100% from Verdejo grapes, the emblematic grape of the Rueda Denomination of Origin. It comes from the vineyards of Finca La Monja and Finca Matalamoza, located in Valdestillas (Valladolid). Planted almost 20 years ago, they cover 61.8 hectares on sandy-loam soils at an altitude of 730-750 m. These are trellised vineyards that facilitate care and harvesting. Annual pruning ensures uniform and healthy ripening. Harvesting takes place in September, at the optimal ripening moment. Fermentation was carried out over 10-14 days in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and fruity aromas.
In Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid), the quality hub of the Ribera vineyards, you will find Bodega Matarromera. Founded by Carlos Moro in 1988 on the slope of a south-facing hill, overlooking the majestic Duero River. Its semi-underground facilities provide ideal conditions for aging great wines, where the balance between oak and Tempranillo grapes takes center stage.
The winery's first vintage was a milestone, earning the Grand Gold Medal at the International Wine Competition, a beginning that foreshadowed a trajectory full of success. The spirit of Melior reflects this essence: contemporary wines with a classic touch, designed to conquer palates in any corner of the world. Its name, derived from the Latin Melior-Melioris, means "the best," and it undoubtedly lives up to its category.
The white Melior Verdejo 2025 (D.O. Rueda) is ideal to pair with fried anchovies or mussels café Paris.
Aromas of water pear, subtle tones of acacia flower and thyme, and fennel's aniseed notes.
Its citrusy grapefruit background is surprising. Intense flavors of fresh fruits, vibrant citrus, and elegant aniseed notes.
Following the winemaking tradition of his Castilian ancestors, Carlos Moro founded the Matarromera winery in Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid) in 1988 with a clear objective: to create quality wines using the most advanced technology while respecting traditional winemaking methods. The main challenge undertaken by Carlos Moro was his commitment to new barrels for aging his wines, an initiative that was novel at the time in Ribera del Duero. Another key to Matarromera's success is its excellent vineyards, located in a legendary area of the D.O. Ribera del Duero: Valbuena de Duero.
Matarromera was the first winery of Carlos Moro and the seed of one of the most important wine groups in this country: Bodegas Familiares Matarromera. The first red wine produced by the winery—an ancestor of the brand we now know as Melior—achieved the title of "Best Wine in the World" at the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) competition held in Turkey in 1995. Currently, Bodega Matarromera has 150 hectares of its own vineyards and controls an additional 160 hectares.
