Matarromera is established as one of the leading wineries in the country, whose success is based on exceptional raw materials. Melior de Matarromera Tempranillo 2023 is a single-varietal Tempranillo made with grapes from the Finca de La Casa, Villanueba, and La Cabaña plots, located in Olivares de Duero (Valladolid), in the famous "golden mile" of Ribera del Duero.
At Bodega Matarromera, some of the best wines in the country are produced. Founded in 1988 in Valbuena del Duero, on the slope of a hill overlooking the Duero River, it has won significant international awards since its inception. In fact, the first vintage of Bodega Matarromera received the Grand Gold Medal at the International Wine Competition. Following this winery, the expansion and formation of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera began, one of the most important wine empires in the country, led by Carlos Moro.
Melior de Matarromera Tempranillo 2023 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is ideal for pairing with all kinds of canapés, cold cuts, cheeses, and meats.
It shows an important layer of dark cardinal tones with a youthful purple rim, very clean and bright. On the nose, it exhibits notes of ripe red fruits with spices such as licorice, coffee, or vanilla. It has a voluminous and intense body while being cheerful and fresh, supported by an excellent level of tannins. It maintains a notable passage with sweet tannins, fruity sensations with touches of cocoa, coconut, vanilla, and clean wood. It retains a long and persistent finish.
Following the winemaking tradition of his Castilian ancestors, Carlos Moro founded the Matarromera winery in Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid) in 1988 with a clear objective: to create quality wines using the most advanced technology while respecting traditional winemaking methods. The main challenge undertaken by Carlos Moro was his commitment to new barrels for aging his wines, an initiative that was novel at the time in Ribera del Duero. Another key to Matarromera's success is its excellent vineyards, located in a legendary area of the D.O. Ribera del Duero: Valbuena de Duero.
Matarromera was the first winery of Carlos Moro and the seed of one of the most important wine groups in this country: Bodegas Familiares Matarromera. The first red wine produced by the winery—an ancestor of the brand we now know as Melior—achieved the title of "Best Wine in the World" at the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) competition held in Turkey in 1995. Currently, Bodega Matarromera has 150 hectares of its own vineyards and controls an additional 160 hectares.
