Exclusive: the freshest Bierzo debuts with an unexpected gem
On the high slopes of Cacabelos, where the Bierzo shows its freshest and Atlantic profile, a white wine is born destined to mark a before and after in Virgen del Galir's trajectory. Following the success of its line of wines Maruxa in Valdeorras, the winery ventures for the first time into this area to produce a Godello that combines precision, identity, and exceptional aromatic purity. An absolute first for Vinoselección that inaugurates a new line aimed at winning over those who seek whites with soul and authenticity.
Maruxa Alba Godello 2025 is the first wine of this new line produced by Virgen del Galir in Bierzo, a bet that expands the Maruxa universe and arrives in absolute exclusivity to Vinoselección. Its origin in vineyards situated at 500 to 600 metres altitude, alongside its lees ageing, results in a white that combines freshness, structure and an impeccable varietal expression.
The winery Virgen del Galir, part of the prestigious CVNE group, has established itself as one of the great references of north‑western Spain. Its track record in Valdeorras, where it has signed some of the most recognised Godellos in the region, has made it a house of experts in interpreting this variety. With this new project in the Bierzo, the winery demonstrates its ability to explore neighbouring areas while maintaining its quality hallmark and enological sensitivity.
The wine comes from clay soils with rolled pebbles, a soil type that provides freshness, health and a pronounced Atlantic identity. Manual harvest, pre-chill of the grapes, fermentation with native yeasts and three months ageing on fine lees in stainless steel allow for a precise, clean Godello full of nuances. The 2025 vintage, marked by a warm and dry summer that advanced ripening, favoured concentrated grapes of excellent quality.
Overall, Maruxa Alba Godello 2025 is a white that inaugurates a new phase for the winery and arrives with the impact of a great premiere. An ideal wine for those seeking freshness, authenticity and the natural elegance of Godello, destined to become one of the season’s great successes.
Consumption features
Pairing
Its texture is fresh and enveloping. Maruxa Alba Godello 2025 pairs very well with oven-baked sea bream.
The grapes were chilled for 24 hours before passing through the sorting table and, afterwards, were destemmed without crushing to preserve as much as possible the primary aromas. Fermentation was carried out with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks, and the wine ultimately remained 6 months on its lees in the same material.
Aging
Maruxa Alba Godello 2025 was refined for 6 months on its lees in stainless steel tanks, without ageing in oak. After fermentation with native yeasts, the wine remained in stainless steel to fine-tune its profile and preserve the freshness and primary aromas of the Godello from the Bierzo.

Vineyard
Description
Maruxa Alba Godello 2025 stands out for its clean, Atlantic profile. It comes from vineyards located in the municipality of Cacabelos, in Bierzo, at an altitude of between 500 and 600 metres, with east-west exposure and calcareous-clay soils with pebbles, conditions that favour freshness, structure and excellent grape health. The vintage developed with a spring of normal progression and a very dry and warm summer, which advanced phenology and required a good balance from the vines, but allowed harvesting at the optimum ripeness. It is produced from Godello at 100%.
Climate
Note how, in the vineyards of Cacabelos, the 2025 vintage was marked by a very dry and warm summer, with very high temperatures and hardly any rain since 19 June, which advanced phenology and caused some water stress at the end of the cycle. Nevertheless, the conditions were favourable for harvesting with care and picking the grapes at their optimal ripening point.
