Since 1292, the estate El Quinto Casa de Vacas has belonged to the family of the current owners, the Falcó lineage. A legendary agricultural property, dedicated to various crops and used as a hunting reserve for centuries. This was the place chosen by Carlos Falcó to start his great winemaking venture in the 1970s, after a comprehensive academic education and continuous advice from the world's leading viticulture experts. Vinoselección was tasked with introducing to the final customer the first wines produced on this estate back in 1982.
What is now known as D.O. Dominio de Valdepusa features vineyards advised by the Australian guru Richard Smart, who employs canopy management techniques such as the smart-dyson or lyre trellis systems. However, Smart is not the only international figure who has collaborated or continues to work at Pagos de Familia Marqués de Griñón. Notable examples include winemakers Emile Peynaud and Michel Rolland, or the leading experts in soil studies, Claude Bourguignon and his wife.
Therefore, Vinoselección returns to Dominio de Valdepusa, the first Spanish production area to achieve its own D.O. in 2002, to present to you a wine that serves as a tribute to the pioneer of syrah planting in Spain, Carlos Falcó. Marqués de Griñón Syrah 2020 is one of the best representatives of the syrah grape in the country. A wine whose vineyards sink their roots into limestone soils protected on the surface by a layer of clay. A red wine that will surprise you with its complexity and elegance. The ultimate expression of the Montes de Toledo.
```Splendid very ripe cherry red color with intense garnet rim.
In the aromatic phase, it unfolds with good intensity, clear varietal aromas of fruit in ripe plum jam, floral hints of violets, spices (white pepper and ginger), and notes of toasted bread. Excellent and complex nose finish, marked by balsamic and mushroom memories.
On the palate, it is tasty, medium-bodied, and very balanced. It possesses mature, noble, and fruity tannins that make its passage smooth and velvety. At the finish, notes of ripe fruit reappear. Long and complex final persistence.
The Marqués de Griñón and Castelmoncayo, Carlos Falcó, was one of the key figures in the modernization of Spanish winemaking in recent decades. He introduced cabernet sauvignon, merlot, syrah, chardonnay, and petit verdot varieties to Spain; was the first to implement mixed vine planting models (Canopy management, or foliage management), drip irrigation, and Smart-Dyson trellises; and paved the way for the development of competitive wines in the international market.
Located in Malpica de Tajo, Toledo, Pagos de Familia Marqués de Griñón is a family winery with a strong historical tradition and long-term future prospects. Since 1292, the estate has been in the hands of the Falcó family, a lineage that has passed down values of sustainability and respect for the environment, culture, and tradition from generation to generation. Pagos de Familia Marqués de Griñón was a pioneering firm in applying cutting-edge viticulture in our country, producing wines with foreign varieties in the Montes de Toledo and always striving for excellence from the vineyard to the glass.
