Marques de Cáceres Selección Especial Crianza 2022 is a red wine with its own character, produced in the D.O. Ribera del Duero. Tempranillo and Merlot come together in an elegant, fresh and intense style, with 14 months in French oak and a personality that leaves an impression. Let yourself be seduced by its balance.

Marqués de Cáceres Selección Especial Crianza 2022 stands out for its own character within the D.O. Ribera del Duero, a red designed for those seeking a wine with presence, balance and a well-defined personality. It stems from Tinta del País and a small input of Merlot, with a carefully crafted production to preserve the fruit freshness and the depth of colour that are so identifying of this area.

The harvest is carried out entirely by hand, in small plots, and the grapes are cooled before entering the vessel to treat them with care from the first moment. After that, the fermentation is carried out slowly, with indigenous yeasts, prolonged maceration and 14 months of ageing in French oak barrels with a fine grain, new and with wine evenly split. A serious wine, but very approachable.

The estate itself, spanning 60 hectares, sits between Roa, Anguix and La Horra, surrounded by the winery itself. Its soils, poor and highly varied, contribute finesse, elegance and good drainage. Bodegas Marqués de Cáceres, with Cristina Forner at the helm and Fernando Costa on the technical team, maintains a approach to winemaking focused on quality, detail and respect for each vineyard.

Consumption features

Pairing

While many Crianza reds require very hearty dishes to shine, Marques de Cáceres Selección Especial Crianza 2022 finds its best balance with tasty dishes and a juicy texture. It pairs very well with lamb cutlets, grilled beef fillet, pork cheeks, game, or a creamy mushroom rice. It also pairs well with aged cheeses and Iberian cured meats, because its freshness, polished tannins and toasted notes enhance the overall ensemble without overpowering it.

Making process

Vintage

Totally manual, in small plots. The short distance to the winery allows rapid maceration, without heating the grapes or oxidising the must. Nevertheless, the grapes are cooled in cold rooms before being placed into the tanks. They then pass through a sorting table to small tanks.

Winemaking

Slow alcoholic fermentation of whole berries in small stainless steel and wooden vessels with indigenous yeast. Prolonged maceration, but avoiding over-extraction. Malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels. Gravity-driven movements with the utmost care. Preserving the primary fruity aromas and aiming to retain to the fullest the great depth of colour typical of the area.

Aging

Aging for 14 months in French oak barrels of fine grain, split equally between new barrels and those previously used for the wine, and then remains between 16 and 20 months in bottle before leaving the winery, thereby refining its character and integrating the wood with the varietal expression.

Vineyard

Description

Own vineyards: a 60-hectare estate in the heart of Ribera del Duero, between Roa, Anguix and La Horra (Burgos). The winery is surrounded by the vineyards, meticulously tended with the highest quality focus.

These vines sit on soils of great heterogeneity, of high viticultural value, predominating above all ancient soils of tertiary origin, poor and with low levels of organic matter. Of franco-sandy loam texture, with very good aeration and drainage. Predominantly silty sands, alternating with calcareous layers of a whitish appearance that impart elegance and fineness, as well as sandy clays with excellent capacity for nutrient retention.

Tasting notes

View

Wine with a deep colour, high body, glycerol-rich and velvety in the glass.

Nose

Intense nose, with notes of fruity freshness wrapped in a very integrated oak that complements, without masking, the varietal fullness of Tinta del País in the Ribera del Duero.

Mouth

On the palate, fresh and lively, with elegant complexity, creamy nuances and fine toasty notes. Enveloping and dense polymerised tannins. Subtle and elegant. Balanced to drink now and with the potential to age in bottle for several years.
