A marvellous discovery in the moorlands of Alcarria
The name Pioz refers to a specific origin: the municipality where this small, modern winery is located, at an altitude of 870 metres in the Alcarria area (Guadalajara). It used grapes from its own estate to make Mago de Pioz 2019, a wine produced in very limited quantities. A blend of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 12 months in French oak, it's very much in line with the current trend for fresh, smooth wines.

General Information
The municipality of Pioz, where the Alcarria area begins, is home to Altos del Pioz, a boutique winery whose facilities and vineyards are perched on a moorland plateau at an altitude of almost 900 metres. This unique spot is the birthplace of Mago de Pioz 2019, a red wine made from grapes grown in the winery's own vineyards. Expressive and fruity, with finesse, mineral character and a well-integrated structure.
It's a blend of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon planted on trellises 20 years ago. The altitude, constant winds and soils in this area make this estate exceptionally well suited to producing very fresh wines with outstanding finesse.
Production began with the grapes being cooled for 9 hours, followed by manual sorting on a table. The must was macerated with whole bunches and the rest was destemmed. Fermentation took place at low temperature with selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The wine was then aged for 12 months in 225-litre barrels crafted by the best French cooperages.
The red Mago de Pioz 2019 (V.T. Castilla) pairs perfectly with intensely flavoured dishes such as stews, roast beef or roast lamb.

Founded in 2009 in Pioz (Guadalajara), Bodegas y Viñedos Alcarreños stands at the gates of La Alcarria. A small and modernly designed winery located on a plateau at 870 m altitude, surrounded by 12 hectares of its own vineyards, where old tempranillo vines coexist with plantations of cabernet sauvignon, syrah, and moscatel. The two labels of the winery - Mago de Pioz and León Cobarde - are crafted exclusively with the fruits of this viticultural heritage. Bodegas y Viñedos Alcarreños is a ‘boutique’ brand with an annual production of 70,000 bottles.
The winemaking strategy aligns with current tastes, featuring a handcrafted style and limited productions. During the harvest, after a meticulous selection of grape clusters, the architectural slope of the winery is utilized to optimize the movement of the grapes at the start of the vinification process. The musts ferment separately, not only according to each variety but also based on the behavior of the vines in different areas of the estate, taking into account soil types and the orientation of the plants.
