Voted ‘Best Buy 2024’ by the prestigious Wine Enthusiast magazine, the red Luz Millar Roble 2023 is great value for money. It's undoubtedly one of the best wines from Ribera del Duero in the ‘Roble’ (lightly oaked) category. This is largely thanks to the magnificent ingredients it's made from: Tempranillo grapes from vines aged between 25 and 35 years old located in the legendary town of Valbuena de Duero, where some of the country's best wines are produced. It was aged for a short time in barrels without masking its delicious fruity character.

General Information

Luz Millar Roble 2023 is made from Tempranillo grapes from the winery's 30 hectares of vineyards in Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid), the quality Mecca in the Ribera del Duero wine region. The vines are between 25 and 35 years old on average, with a yield of 3,000 to 5,000 kg/ha. They grow in clayey, calcareous soils at an altitude of 780 metres, in an area with dry summers and cold winters with significant temperature differences that are conducive to slow ripening.

The grapes were harvested by hand in 15 kg crates during the last week of September. Fermentation took place in stainless steel truncated cone-shaped tanks at a temperature of 22-24ºC for 12-15 days. This red wine was then aged for a short 3 months in French and American oak barrels.

Bodegas Lleiroso heads the group of wineries that revolutionised the D.O. Ribera del Duero in the late 1900s and early 2000s. Founded in 2001, the winery has always been committed to preserving its own vineyards, many of which are old, in order to produce wines that are deeply rooted in the terroir. It boasts exceptional wine-growing assets: 30 hectares of vineyards spread across Valbuena de Duero, Peñafiel and Pesquera de Duero, in what is considered the ‘golden mile’ of the production area, rubbing shoulders with distinguished neighbours such as Vega Sicilia.

Its commitment to restrained viticulture, with yields well below those required by the Ribera del Duero regulatory council, manual harvesting in small crates, double sorting of the grapes in the vineyard and in the winery, and gravity-fed production make Bodegas Lleiroso a reliable choice in the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin.

Luz Millar Roble 2023 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is great with lamb hotpot and poultry and mushroom stew.

A brand established in 2001 with the aim of producing premium wines from an exceptional vineyard, equipped with the latest technologies to serve this purpose, where the tinto fino or tempranillo variety predominates.
