Lúculo Origen 2018 is the highest-end red wine produced by Bodegas La Casa de Lúculo in the Baja Montaña of Navarra, where they cultivate the oldest Garnacha vines of the D.O. There, at 800 meters above sea level, the winery carefully works the recovered vineyard of Santa Eufemia following ecological criteria. Using exclusively hand-selected fruits from their nearly 100-year-old plants, they produced the organic red wine Lúculo Origen 2018, their top wine, the jewel of the house.
The vinification of the super premium single-varietal wine by Bodegas La Casa de Lúculo followed an extremely meticulous process. Alcoholic fermentation was carried out with several daily manual delestages. After racking, only the free-run wine was transferred to French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation. Aging was also done in French oak barrels for 12 months.
Lúculo Origen 2018 stands out for its original fruit presence and a slight tobacco touch contributed by the wood. Only 4200 bottles of this wine from the D.O. Navarra were produced, and it received a score of 90 points from the prestigious critic James Suckling. Enjoy it on its own or paired with bold-flavored culinary dishes such as lamb, game, grilled meats, or pasta with tomato-based sauces.
It displays an intense bright ruby red color.
On the nose, aromas of fresh red fruits, cherry liqueur, cherry, and hints of blue flowers and toasted bread appear.
Sweet, fresh, and lively flavor on the palate. Persistent fruity and floral finish. Gastronomic profile.
Bodegas La Casa de Lúculo is a Spanish winery located in Castilla-La Mancha, in the province of Ciudad Real, and part of the D.O. Navarra. Founded in 2004, La Casa de Lúculo is a small winery led by women: Eugenie Van Ekeris (Axial Wines) is the owner, and Virginia Arranz is the winemaker. The winery believes in ecology as the most effective way to ensure the preservation of its environment. For this reason, both the care of its vineyards and the production of its wines are certified as organic.
La Casa de Lúculo produces organic red, rosé, and white wines from 12 hectares of controlled vineyards, located on a plateau at an altitude of 650 meters above sea level. This is a privileged area for vine cultivation, with stony soils of loamy or silty textures and calcareous marls, and an extreme continental climate, influenced by the Atlantic and the Pyrenees, which favors grape ripening. They use sustainable farming methods that are environmentally friendly and also employ modern winemaking technology that allows them to control every stage of the winemaking process, from harvest to bottling.
Among the wines produced by Bodegas La Casa de Lúculo, their signature red wine, Lúculo Origen, and their white wine, Lúculo Blanco, stand out. Their catalog also includes the wines Cátulo Tinto and Cátulo Rosado, as well as the natural red wine Chloss Terroir.
