The Livio Felluga winery ensures that Livio Felluga Illivio 2020 “expresses the personality of the patriarch” and founder of the Italian firm. With this sensational blend of chardonnay, pinot blanc, and picolit (an indigenous variety of Friuli), Livio Felluga's children wanted to pay tribute to their father on his 85th birthday by crafting a unique white wine that combines strength and elegance in equal measure. Time seems to have proven them right, and today it is a classic of the winery. A complex and profound white wine, with great fragrance, refined notes, creamy and persistent. A true 'must' for lovers of great Italian wines.

General Information

The Italian winery Livio Felluga produces the white wine Livio Felluga Illivio 2020 from a carefully balanced blend of the French-origin varieties Chardonnay (50%) and Pinot Blanc (30%) combined with the native Picolit (20%). These grapes come from vineyards mainly cultivated in Guyot on soils composed of Eocene-origin marl and sandstone.

After a manual harvest during the first half of September, the selected grapes were transported to the winery in small boxes to preserve their qualities to the fullest. At the winery, a gentle destemming and a brief maceration were carried out before pressing. The resulting must was clarified through decantation. Fermentation began at a controlled temperature in small French oak barrels, where the wine remained for about 10 months. This meticulous winemaking process resulted in one of the most appreciated references of the winery.

Livio Felluga is a defining winery in the history of the wine world in northwest Italy. A pioneer of the wines from the Friuli hills, it is considered the father of viticulture in the Rosazzo region. Livio Felluga pursued the dream of founding a winery in the Friuli Colli Orientali region and found the ideal location for crafting exceptional wines in lands abandoned after World War II. Today, the winery is in the hands of the sixth family generation and oversees an estate spanning more than 160 hectares. Livio Felluga is one of the most iconic wine producers in all of Italy.

Belonging to the D.O.C. Colli Orientali del Friuli, this is a white wine with a style that few can match. Its outstanding qualities make Livio Felluga Illivio 2020 a highly versatile wine, ideal for pairing with fish-based dishes, seafood risottos, and fresh cheeses.

Tasting notes

Livio Felluga Illivio displays an intense and bright straw-yellow color.

Intense, complex, and profound nose, with pronounced notes of white fruit and white and yellow flowers. Its refinement in small barrels reveals at the end fine notes of sweet spices such as nutmeg and vanilla pods, accompanied by aromas of acacia honey and custard. A pleasant iodized touch completes the bouquet.

Broad, creamy, and intense, with a very rich attack on the palate. A progression of great fragrance and balance with aromatic notes of ripe fruit such as apricot, mango, and yellow peach. The finish is persistent with slight notes of candied chocolate.

The story of the Livio Felluga winery is the story of a man and his love for the unique land surrounding the northeastern tip of the Adriatic, where the Mediterranean meets Central Europe. A place that over the years has changed borders several times and witnessed wars unfold. Livio Felluga moved in the late 1930s to settle in the surroundings of the Rosazzo hills (Italy) with the dream of producing mountain wines. However, this dream was interrupted when he was called to the front in World War II.

Livio Felluga returned to the Friulian countryside to restore, with great effort and hard work, the vineyards of Rosazzo and plant new ones, convinced that only quality cultivation could bring life back to this area. In the 1950s, he introduced innovative ideas and methods and founded the winery that bears his name: Livio Felluga. For all these reasons, Livio Felluga is recognized with the unofficial title of ‘refounder’ and ‘patriarch’ of the Friulian winemaking tradition.

The forward-thinking vision of the founder and alma mater of this Italian winery, focused on knowledge, respect for the land, and an obsession with quality, is passed on to his children, who currently manage the winery. Of the 242 hectares of the estate, 187 are dedicated to vine cultivation. 320 plots are part of a complex ecosystem with the Alps in the background and views extending to the sea.

Livio Felluga is one of the great protagonists of Italian wine, and his winery is the most emblematic signature of the Colli Orientali del Friuli denomination. Combining tradition with modern techniques, it produces wines that enjoy a great reputation in the Alpine country and internationally.

The meticulous selection of grapes results in exceptional wines with distinguished fragrances and aromas, adorned with a label designed by Livio himself in 1956 to depict the hills and slopes where the vineyards that nourish his wines are born.

The Livio Felluga winery produces top-tier wines, ranging from the famous Terre Alte to the magnificent Picolit. It also produces fresher and younger wines, with class and an unmistakable style.
