Lan Gran Reserva 2017 is the result of a careful selection of the best batches of the 2017 vintage, a year with a small but high-quality harvest that was rated ‘Very Good’ by the regulatory board of Rioja. It’s a blend of the Tempranillo (96%) and Mazuelo (4%) varieties grown on select vineyards in the Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa subzones that were planted more than 40 years ago.
The grapes were fermented in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature with long maceration to ensure that all the aromas and tannins were fully extracted. Matured for 25 months in mixed barrels (American oak staves and French oak bottoms), followed by 36 months in the bottle.
Founded in 1972 in Fuenmayor (Rioja Alta), Bodegas LAN is a classic among the great Rioja wineries. A pioneer when it comes to modernising (for example, it was a forerunner in using mixed French and American oak barrels), it boasts impressive facilities and one of the best-positioned ranges of wines with a strong market presence. It’s unquestionably one of the Rioja firms that’s most appreciated by consumers for its consistently high quality and fantastic value for money.
LAN has always believed, since its beginnings, that winemaking starts with grape growing, and has its own vines located on the Viña Lanciano estate: its 72 hectares of magnificent vineyards divided into 24 plots are its greatest asset. LAN is currently part of Sogrape, one of the most important Portuguese multinationals in the international wine trade.
Lan Gran Reserva 2017 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is perfect with roast lamb with roast potatoes.
Appearance: Garnet-red with a ruby-red rim, deeply pigmented.
Nose: Distinctive nose with aromas of red fruit, figs and touches of raisins mixed with intense spicy and smoky notes.
Palate: Harmonious, balanced and marked by pleasant tannins. Long finish that enhances the aromas of ripe fruit and spices.
Founded in 1972 in Fuenmayor, in the heart of Rioja Alta, Bodegas LAN is a true benchmark in the region. It is one of the most recognized wineries by consumers and one of the best-established in the market, with extensive distribution both nationally and internationally. Today, their wines can be found in 42 countries across five continents, from the USA to Germany, including Peru and Taiwan.
Bodegas LAN was one of the pioneering wineries in the modernization of Rioja wine and the application of new technologies. Consistency, excellent value for money, technology, and meticulous viticulture are the hallmarks of this great winery.
It boasts spectacular facilities and 72 hectares of vineyards in its legendary Viña Lanciano, located in a meander of the Ebro River, with vines up to 60 years old. Undoubtedly, one of the most coveted plots in the D.O.Ca. Rioja: some of the wines born in Viña Lanciano have earned a place among the top one hundred wines in the world according to the prestigious Wine Spectator magazine.
