General Information

Kientzler Les Failles Riesling 2022 is one of the most interesting Rieslings among those produced by Domaine Kientzler, a house specialized in whites predominantly featuring this German-origin variety. The historical German influence in this northeastern French wine region, its dry climate with little rainfall, thanks to the shelter provided by the Vosges Mountains, and the soil composition with limestones, marls, sandstones, and granitic rocks, constitute the ideal terroir for cultivating this grape.

In the case of this Kientzler Les Failles Riesling 2022, Domaine Kientzler selected the best fruits from chosen plots located on the gentle slopes surrounding the village of Ribeauvillé. From vineyards aged between 10 and 60 years with clay-limestone soils with marls, the result is a concentrated, structured, and mineral white. This white from the A.O.C. Alsace can be enjoyed both now in its youth and as a more mature wine in five or ten years, when it reaches its peak in complexity, finesse, and minerality.

Creators' opinion

The winery

Vibrant, complex, classy white wines with great longevity. These are the hallmark of Domaine Kientzler, a fifth-generation family winery, founded in 1895 originally as a cooperative, in Ribeauvillé.

Belonging to the A.O.C. Alsace and Alsace Grand Cru, Kientzler's vineyard spans 13.8 hectares, 4.4 of which are classified as Grands Crus, spread across the villages of Ribeauvillé, Bergheim, Hunawihr, and Riquewihr. Its vines, mostly planted on slopes, include riesling, pinot blanc, pinot gris, pinot noir, gewurztraminer, chasselas, sylvaner, and auxerrois blanc, with an age range of 35 to 80 years. Since 2009, brothers Thierry and Eric Kientzler have been leading the winery, and their splendid whites, the result of top-quality grapes and impeccable, precise work in the cellar, rightfully rank among the finest wines this French region produces.
