The young Verdejo is the backbone of the José Pariente winery, and each vintage is among the best in the D.O. Rueda. The latest vintage is now here: José Pariente Verdejo 2023, a wine that’s highly representative of the variety: mouth-coating, with a hint of sweetness and elegant with a subtle touch of bitterness in the finish, a characteristic of Verdejo. Designed from vines planted between 1962 and 1991 owned by the winery and old vines belonging to small grape growers, it seeks to reflect the identity of the region and its different soils.

General Information

José Pariente Verdejo 2023 comes from a year marked by a cold, wet winter and a hot, dry summer. Harvesting began in September and was characterised by low yields due to the heatwave of the previous weeks. In addition, the moderate temperatures in September ensured a somewhat higher than usual acidity. The accumulated rainfall during the winter and spring combined with the low yields resulted in very balanced musts in terms of aromas and structure, giving rise to wines with a long life.

The Verdejo vineyard from which this famous white wine is made boasts pebbly soils poor in organic matter with some limestone outcrops at the highest elevations. After harvesting the musts were fermented in different formats: stainless steel, concrete and wooden vats. The wines were then aged on their lees for 4 months and finally blended. Blending is what makes this famous Verdejo white wine unique.

Bodegas José Pariente was founded in 1998 under the leadership of María Victoria Pariente, who named the winery after her father, also a winegrower and winemaker. The firm is now run by the second generation of the family: Ignacio and Martina Prieto Pariente, María Victoria's children. The current facilities came into operation in 2008 and are equipped with state-of-the-art technology. They command a panoramic view of the vineyards, a total of 40 hectares spread between the municipalities of Rueda and La Seca on a moor at an altitude of 750 metres above sea level. All the vineyards were harvested and vinified separately.

José Pariente Verdejo 2023 (D.O. Rueda) pairs well with sea bream in a salt crust, rice dishes with fish and seafood and Ibérico ham.

The winery

Bodegas José Pariente

Bodegas José Pariente (1998) brings together three generations of a family dedicated to winemaking. The new winery facilities were inaugurated in 2008, offering a magnificent panoramic view of their vineyards, a total of 40 hectares located between the areas of Rueda and La Seca (Valladolid), on a plateau at 750 meters altitude. In addition to verdejo, they cultivate the other white grape variety prominent in Rueda: sauvignon blanc.

In their oldest vineyards, planted in goblet style, they practice manual harvesting, allowing for an initial selection of the grapes in the field. Furthermore, the harvesting of verdejo largely takes place at night to preserve the fruit's maximum aromatic intensity.
