A Ribera del Duero red with freshness and character
Jaros Selección 9 Meses 2024 is a red wine from Ribera del Duero made with Tempranillo by Viñas del Jaro. Fresh, elegant and with character, it reflects a vintage of very high quality and the personality of the estate from which the grapes come.
Jaros Selección 9 Meses 2024 marks the most personal pulse of Viñas del Jaro in the D.O. Ribera del Duero. Made with Tempranillo and aged 9 months in French and American oak barrels, this red wine comes from a manual harvest and a precise winemaking process, designed to respect the character of the grape and the estate’s signature.
The grapes come from vines located at the lowest part of the vineyard, a kilometre from the Duero, protected by a hillside and facing south towards the river. The soils, sandy with clays and some calcareous content, and the 24-year-old vines trained on a trellis, define a very definite origin. The 2024 harvest was rated Very Good.
Viñas del Jaro, in Pesquera de Duero, works a estate divided into 28 sectors according to soils, orientation and altitude. Under the oenological direction of Beatriz Arranz, the winery combines precision and reading of the surroundings to shape wines with Ribera del Duero identity and a clear, direct and well honed style, as demonstrated by this exquisite Jaros Selección 9 Meses 2024.
Consumption features
Pairing
Jaros Selección 9 Meses 2024 pairs well with dishes that are full of flavour and juicy, such as black rice, Moroccan kebabs, roast lamb ribs, or mushrooms sautéed with garlic.
Grapes are harvested between the last week of September and the first week of October, with manual picking and a careful selection before entering the winery, a choice that reinforces the quality of a vintage rated as Very Good. The result is a harvest designed to preserve the fruit's most precise expression and to reach the winery with its full potential intact.
Winemaking
Jaros Selección 9 Meses 2024 was produced in the winery with a cold pre-fermentation maceration, followed by a fermentation that took place in a stainless steel tank. The wine remained in maceration for about 20 days, with a post-fermentation maceration that allowed precise extraction and preserved the fruity profile.
Malolactic fermentation developed in the same stainless steel tank, at the same time as the alcoholic fermentation. A straightforward and well-tuned process.
Aging
9 months in 300-litre barrels of French and American oak.
Vineyard
Description
Jaros Selección 9 Meses 2024 proceeds from the Viñas del Jaro estate, in Pesquera de Duero, one kilometre from the Duero River. Its vines, aged 24 years, are planted in the lowest part of the estate, protected by a hill to the north and oriented to the south, looking towards the river. They grow on sandy soils, with pockets of clay and calcareous stones, an environment that favours precise and expressive viticulture.
Age
Made from Tempranillo grown on 24-year-old vines.
Climate
The 2024 vintage at Viñas del Jaro was marked by a mild winter and abundant rainfall at the end of 2023 and the start of 2024, followed by a spring also generous in water and mild temperatures that advanced budburst. The frosts in late April conditioned the vineyard, but afterwards the temperate summer, without heatwaves, allowed slow and balanced ripening of the grapes.
Tasting notes
View
Pale ruby colour with a bright purple rim.
Nose
It has an enveloping, well-constructed nose, where creamy aromas reminiscent of caramel toffee appear and, after a few minutes in the glass, the red seasonal fruits come through clearly, such as blackberries and strawberries, sweetly enveloped by light toasty notes in which coconut takes centre stage. The overall profile gains depth with a pronounced balsamic character, spicy notes and a delicate hint of dried fruit, reflecting careful winemaking and its 9 months in oak barrels.
Mouth
On the palate, Jaros Selección 9 Meses 2024 stands out for a very friendly entry, with a silky mouthfeel in which creams reappear and a fruit somewhat riper than in the nose, contributing body and a very pleasant rounded sensation; it is complemented by a delicate milky note with a coconut memory that evokes a smooth yoghurt, while the finish, with medium persistence, leaves light vanilla notes and a subtle touch of licorice root. A red wine easy to drink, but with character.
Viñas del Jaro was the first winery founded by the Osborne-Osborne family. For this, they chose an extraordinary estate in Pesquera del Duero – one of the most privileged areas of Ribera del Duero – surrounded by a forest of century-old holm oaks called Jaro, which gives the winery its name. The El Quiñón estate spans 108 hectares, with vineyards divided into plots according to their soil, orientation, and expression.
The wines produced by Viñas del Jaro are among the most outstanding in the entire D.O. Ribera del Duero. One only needs to look at the tremendous success with critics and the public achieved by brands like Chafandín and Jaros, not to mention the exclusive Jaro by Manolo Santana, born from the friendship between the Osborne-Osborne family and the legendary Madrid-born tennis player.
Since the 2005 vintage, Viñas del Jaro has also been producing wines in the D.O. Toro, where they own 15 hectares of tinta de toro vineyards at the Finca Yaso.
