A Tempranillo grown on a plot in Rioja Alta, matured in French oak and acclaimed by critics: balance, character and a length that will wine you over.
Íñigo Amézola 2023 comes from the heart of Rioja Alta. This red, grown on a high-altitude plot, fully reflects its origins: crisp fruity notes, subtle floral aromas and a flavourful palate that lingers effortlessly. Ageing in new French oak has added subtle flavours, smoothing the tannins and enhancing the fruitiness. It bears the hallmark of an iconic firm whose mastery of winemaking starts in the vineyard.
Íñigo Amézola 2023 is a sensational red wine made from Tempranillo grapes from a single estate, San Quiles, and comes across as a Rioja with a clean expression: crisp red and black fruit, floral touches and hints of pepper, giving way to a flavourful palate with elegant tannins and a long finish. Eight months in new French oak barrels afford it just the right degree of complexity, without overpowering it, allowing the terroir to speak for itself. It comes in a limited edition of 6,000 bottles and has been awarded no less than 93 points by critic Tim Atkin.
The winery behind it is Bodegas Amézola de la Mora, a genuine château in Rioja with historic cellars dating back to the nineteenth century and its own vineyards surrounding the premises. Founded in Torremontalbo (La Rioja Alta) back in 1816, it resumed its activity in the 1980s under the guidance of brothers Íñigo and Javier Amézola, and today this family legacy is owned by Cristina Amézola Downes and managed by her daughters. The winery has blazed a trail in Rioja due to its own vineyards and its meticulous interpretation of the terroir.
All in all, Íñigo Amézola 2023 is a signature Rioja that showcases the greatness of Tempranillo in its natural surroundings: finesse, balance and character. Ideal for pairing with grilled meats, roast lamb, country-style rice dishes or sautéed mushrooms. An opportunity to bring to your table a red wine with history, precision and surprising value for money: it’s easy to drink, develops nuances and has a harmonious finish.

The origins of Bodegas Amézola de la Mora date back to the early 19th century in Torremontalbo (La Rioja Alta). At the end of that same century, the phylloxera plague forced its owner to indefinitely halt winemaking activities. This pause lasted until 1986, when brothers Íñigo and Javier Amézola, great-grandsons of the founder, revived the winery and turned it into one of the most prominent in the region.
Although the winery is currently managed by Íñigo's daughters, the owner is Cristina Amézola Downes, their mother and Íñigo's widow. This generational change ensures that the project will endure over time with the same clarity as before. The château-style winery features cellars and underground caves, along with 70 hectares of its own vineyards. It produces a comprehensive range of seven wines, all of which boast more than notable quality.
